• Mdina - Mdina’s history spans over 4000 years. Tradition holds that in 60 A.D., the Apostle St. Paul lived here after being shipwrecked on the Islands. It is believed that St. Paul stayed in the grotto known as Fuori le Mura (outside the city walls), now called St. Paul’s Grotto in Rabat. Known as “the silent city” and illuminated by lamps at night, Mdina offers a captivating visit with its timeless ambiance and rich cultural and religious heritage.
• Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja) - Situated on Malta’s southern coast, west of Wied iz-Zurrieq and facing the uninhabited islet of Filfla, the Blue Grotto was named by a British soldier who thought it resembled Capri’s Grotta Azzurra. The English equivalent, Blue Grotto, attracts around 100,000 tourists annually, also popular for diving. Featured in the film Troy (2004) starring Brad Pitt, this natural grotto, combined with sunlight and nearby caves, reflects the vibrant colors of the underwater flora and the deep blue sea.
• Malta National Aquarium - The Malta National Aquarium spans approximately 20,000 square meters, featuring a public aquarium, a landscaped belvedere at promenade level, a multi-storey car park, facilities for local dive schools, catering services including a beach club, a merchandise outlet, and a tourist information kiosk. The aquarium boasts 41 tanks with reptiles, insects, amphibians, and Mediterranean fish, including species native to Maltese waters, alongside replicas of historical artifacts found in the surrounding seas. The main tank, about 12 meters in diameter, houses Indian Ocean species like black tip sharks, horn sharks, rays, eels, and other exotic creatures, with a walk-through tunnel for close-up viewing. All tanks are meticulously themed to mimic the underwater environment. Additional features include a classroom, interpretation, touch pools, a temporary exhibition space, and veterinary and quarantine facilities. The aquarium is housed in an iconic starfish-shaped curved shell structure.
• Popeye Village Malta - Visiting Popeye Village, the original film set of the musical production Popeye, is a must-do in Malta. It’s an ideal spot for children to meet beloved cartoon characters. Located near Mellieha Bay, it’s perfect for a visit before, after, or during a day at the nearby beaches and coves, or at the adjacent Anchor Bay, which offers sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, bathing areas, splash pools, and a small kids’ area.
• Valletta Waterfront - The Valletta Waterfront in Floriana, Malta, is a promenade featuring three notable buildings: a central church, the Pinto Stores or Pinto Wharf on the left, and the Forni Stores or Forni Shopping Complex on the right. Originally built as stores and warehouses in the 18th century, the design is credited to Andrea Belli. The project was inaugurated on August 10, 1752, with a grand celebration. The Forni Stores served as the first British naval bakeries in Malta until 1844. Today, the area is a hub for Malta’s cruise liner business, housing the Forni Cruise Passenger Terminal, and is home to numerous bars, retail outlets, and restaurants. It remains a popular venue for concerts and events.
• St. Peter’s Pool - St. Peter’s Pool is a wonderful swimming location, a natural lido carved into the rocks with expansive flat slabs for sunbathing between swims. Follow the narrow road towards Delimara Lighthouse, just past the power station chimney (about 1.5km from the main road), and you’ll find a low building on the left marked ‘St Peter’s Pool.’
