Highlight of Medellin & of Colombia! - We took Walter’s Comuna 13 tour. This was not only one of my favorite things we did in Medellin but one of my favorite things in all of Colombia. I reserved our tour online through TripAdvisor (about $25 USD per person) – Walter met us at the Poblado metro station and escorted us on the metro to the Comuna 13 area (north on the A line, west on the B line). We were the only two people on the tour but this may have been because we were in Colombia during the low season (October). First, we took cable car J, the only one that goes both up and down while heading up the hill, for an aerial view. Then we took a bus to the lower base of Comuna 13. Our tour books gave conflicting reports on the degree to which Comuna 13 had gentrified and was safe for tourists to walk though. It was not at all what I expected – completely transformed into what was essentially the hippest part of Medellin that I saw – it nearly felt like the Las Vegas strip winding its way up the hill with loud bars and people drinking and lots of lights. I started wondering if we had really needed a tour guide but decided the experience was definitely better for taking the long walk with Walter – for one, it would have been challenging to find the start of the area and navigate the twists and turns – but, mostly, Walter was a wealth of knowledge on Colombian history, politics, and culture. Moreover, it was all personal for Walter – his family were refugees within their own country – he experienced Comuna 13 before it became what it is today (this is all very recent history); it seemed like every ten steps, a local was patting Walter on the back or saying hello. Finally, Walter’s a philosopher, a thinker – we had very interesting conversations. Take a tour with Walter (he offers many types) and don’t forget to tip him!!!

Must Do for Medillin Trip - My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Medillin. This tour was truly humbling and left me in awe at how the residents of thus this area were determined to see change. Brayan, our tour guide was EXCEPTIONAL!

Awesome Tour and Tour Guide - This was a very cool tour. Walter was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable and passionate. We enjoyed taking the cable car to view the city from a high angle and learning about all the street art and history of communa 13. It is quite a bit of walking including lots of stairs so be prepared for that. However it is totally worth it.

Great hike - Great to see the vantage points and culture …Walter was knowledgeable and we enjoyed the tour. Be prepared to walk up hill ALOT 😀

This tour was the... - This tour was the highlight of my experience in Medellin! Walter was an amazing tour guide. He walked us through the history of the neighborhood with a focus on all the neighborhood has overcome. The tour was also a great pace, it even included some time to relax and enjoy incredible views of Medellin. Big thank you to Walter for his hospitality. Can't recommend this enough.

Best experience! - The landscape was beautiful ! It is a very urban and artistic destination making this experience unique and different. The dancers and tour guiders make sure you feel welcomed at all times during your visit. Comuna 13 had the best cheese arepas and popsicles that you can ever try. We also visited a Pablo Escobar museum and got a tour in which they taught us about the history and civil wars in the past.

Communal histories and culture 13 - An experience with a lot of culture and history, the Guide always attentive and from the beginning explained me about Medellin, although we had problems with the metro, he knew how to solve and the route was perfect. We could taste different desserts and local drinks, all delicious

Didn’t turn up - Unfortunately the tour guide did not turn up - which meant that we could not make this tour for our trip so was very dissapointing.
