Additional Information

Situated an hour and a half away from Medellin in eastern Antioquia, is the municipality of Guatape. This vibrant town unfolds a spectrum of colours along its streets, decorated with skirtings that narrate the tales of its inhabitants. The town has won numerous titles like Antioquia’s internal sea, Colombia’s Acapulco, the inland Cartagena, Paisa’s Paradise, Haven of Peace, and the core of East Antioquia. The town was named after the tribal leader Guatapé, from the pre-Columbian era. It has also been known as Ceja de Guatapé. The Guatapé Rock or Piedra del Peñol, a 220-meter high monolith, is a landmark in this region. Made up of quartz, mica, and feldspar, the rock was ascended for the first time on July 16, 1954, by Luis Eduardo Villegas López, and his companions, Ramon Diaz and Pedro Nel Ramírez. Today, the rock is still owned by the Villegas family, and visitors can climb to the peak of this monolith via the 740 steps built into it.

Thank you, Alex! - Alex led an incredible tour and taught us so much about the region and the cities that we visited. We absolutely loved having time in Guatape, and the boat ride was very informational. Breakfast and lunch were very enjoyable as well.

Breakfast, rock climb, town of colors, lunch, boat tour - This was one of the best tours we booked in Medellin Colombia. We’re from the Bahamas and your guide Alex made us feel very welcomed as well as other countries that visited. It started for early in the morning but they did provide delicious breakfast and lunch with the trip. There is a lot of walking when you stop so remember to bring your comfortable shoes and dress comfortable as well. Me and my family did walk all the way to the top of the rock and it was a struggle lol but such an amazing view when you get up there. The town of colors and the boat tour to close of the excursion beautiful. I’d most definitely do it again and recommend this to my fam back home. Great Job to Alex who explain in details and speaks English very well also very handsome 😁

Best Excursion, Highly Recommend - My husband and I did the tour and had a wonderful experience. Our tour guide Alex made the experience all that much better, he was extremely attentive and accommodating to the group. Each part of the tour was followed with facts/histories that made it all that much more interesting. We enjoyed climbing the Guatapé rock, shopping at the stores there, and the little town we visited was beautiful. The food we were serviced was good, a nice Colombia experience. The boat tour had breathtaking views and was very relaxing. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Colombia.
