Enjoy another glass of selected Lake Constance wine in a secluded corner of Meersburg’s Upper Town. - Burg Meersburg - The path leads down to the bustling market square and the Meersburg town hall, built in 1501. From here, it’s just a few steps to the old Meersburg Castle, whose foundations date back to the 8th century and are connected to the town by a drawbridge. Discover everything about the impressive castle and its notable past residents.
Please note that during this city tour, Meersburg Castle can only be viewed from the outside.
- Neues Schloss - Close to the old Meersburg castle is the New Castle, built in the early 18th century by the former prince-bishops as a residence. The castle boasts Baroque splendor and proudly faces Lake Constance. The baroque garden terrace was once home to the powerful prince-bishops, who were also sovereigns of the German-side Lake Constance region. Enjoy the view of the beautiful Rococo exterior facade of the castle, as well as the breathtaking view of Lake Constance, the Swiss shore, and - in clear weather - the Alps, while tasting a glass of selected wine from the Lake Constance region.
Please note that the New Castle can only be partially visited from the inside during this city tour.
- Neues Schloss - A brief detour leads to the small yet magnificent castle chapel. Built in 1750, it features furnishings crafted by leading artists of the time. The city guide will describe and explain this gem, which might otherwise go unnoticed.
- Vineum Bodensee - Since 2016, the traditional wine village of Meersburg has housed a wine museum, the Vineum. It originated from the former hospital and displays a large, historic torch in the vestibule, used to press grapes until 100 years ago, turning their juice into wine by expert hands. The guide will explain the technical process and share the history of viticulture on Lake Constance.
Please note that the Vineum Wine Museum can only be partially visited from the inside during this city tour.
- Staatsweingut Meersburg - Evidence shows that wine has been cultivated in Meersburg since 1210. The Meersburg State Winery, part of the state of Baden-Württemberg, has been involved in this wine-growing tradition for over 70 years. A variety of excellent wines are produced on a total of 63 hectares. Follow the cellar master’s recommendation and sample a glass of selected Meersburg wine in the heart of a vineyard.
-
Magische Saule - Sculptor Peter Lenk lives and works on Lake Constance. Since 2007, Meersburg has been home to the 15 m high “Magic Pillar” he created. Here, you will learn about more or less famous figures from Meersburg’s past, portrayed by the sculptor in his usual satirical style.
With a stunning panoramic view over Lake Constance, Meersburg Castle, and the New Castle, the guide and wine ambassador will serve another glass of Lake Constance wine. - Winzerverein Meersburg eG - The lakeside promenade continues into Unterstadtstrasse to the Meersburg winegrowers’ association, organized since 1884. With 50 hectares of vineyards, the winegrowers’ association is somewhat smaller than the Meersburg state winery, but it also produces award-winning wines. Here, too, follow the cellar master’s recommendation and enjoy a glass of Lake Constance wine at the end of the city tour.
- Meersburg (Bodensee) - The tour concludes at Bismarckplatz. The guided tour with wine tasting will be completed here with a culinary specialty of the Lake Constance region - be surprised by what the guide has in store for you!

Meersburg is nestled between vineyards. Enjoy the region’s fine wines in selected beautiful places in the old town, with a view of Lake Constance or in the middle of vineyards. You will also hear facts and anecdotes about Lake Constance wine.
Here on Lake Constance, the vines grow predominantly on ice-age weathered soils - you won’t find that anywhere else in Germany! The terroir offers ideal conditions for producing fine wines. The mild climate, Lake Constance as a heat reservoir, the reflection of the sun’s rays on the heat-loving vines and, last but not least, the warm foehn winds from the Mediterranean ensure that excellent, award-winning wines grow on Lake Constance at an altitude of over 500 m above sea level.
