Coffee, chocolate and Rum - what’s not to love - This tour was so much fun! We had a great tour guide (Phil), who gave insights not only at each stop but at sights along the way, and tips for what to do while we were in Vanuatu. At each stop we were greeted by friendly staff who made us feel welcome. Coffee, chocolate, as well as Rum (and gin, vodka and liqueurs) ticks all the boxes for an amazing tour in my book

Island Rum! - A relatively new distillery which makes rum from freshly crushed cane rather than molasses. Living just down the road from Bundaberg Rum we would call it a craft distillery! Considering they have only been going for 4 years they are doing really well and making some really nice rum and rum liqueurs. Worth a trip to have a look around. Duty free takes a couple of business days and they can't sell alcohol after 11:30 Saturday so if you do the weekend afternoon tours be aware. A great experience. I look forward to going back again in a year or so and seeing how they are progressing!

Nice introduction to the island - Great trip. Enjoyed the chocolate factory and the visit to the distillery. Great tour guides and tastings at both locations. Coffee visit was really just a coffee shop, but interesting nonetheless. The handicraft market was not impressive and I'd suggest another location instead.

83 Islands Distellery. - A very professionally run young organisation. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A good selection of rums, gins and liqueurs. A definite place to go to if you are in Port Villa.

Well thought out, good value tour. - This is my second Yumi tour on my trip so far and both have been fantastic. Good drivers/guides. Take you to lots of places you'd have to pay more by taxi to go to otherwise and all entry included. No hidden costs anywhere in the tours. The guides at the coffee factory, chocolate factory and rum distillery were all so knowledgeable and friendly. Most tours aren't available to book as a solo traveller but Yumi has been flexible and has booked me onto tours on dates with other travellers already booked on so I did not have to pay an additional fee or miss out on a tour. Would highly recommend this company run by locals!

An excellent tour that is flexible as well. - Hello everyone. Today in Port Vila we did an excellent tour with a non-Princess tour provider called Yumi tours. Our excellent driver and guide, Joseph, first took us to Tanna coffee that we are told roasts all the coffee for Vanuatu. It was the first decent coffee I’ve had in a week! Then we went to Aelan chocolate and tasted lots of delicious 70% dark chocolate 😋. Next stop was 83 Islands Rum distillery, so-named because there are 83 islands that make up Vanuatu. This place was awesome. Think full flight wine tasting but with rums and gins and liqueurs! We finished the day with a trip to the markets to contribute some money to the locals. The best part of the tour was how flexible the driver was. The tour was only meant to be 4-hours. It was 6-hours by the time the all aboard time made us call it quits or we were going to be taken to an excellent lunch restaurant as well. You hear so much negativity, I thought I’d give this tour a big plug because despite the weather, etc., it was truly excellent! Highly recommended!

Great activities, terrible logistics - Context: I don't usually write negative reviews, but I do want this feedback to be visible and considered sincerely as (now) digging into past reviews this is a common theme that has not been rectified. I've been lucky with my travels, and this could have gone a lot worse. Experience: booking was smooth, selected 8:30am pick-up time and mentioned we must be back at the hotel by 1pm for our flight (4.5 hours of time in an estimated 3-4 hour tour). This is where smooth stopped. Driver arrived 9:30am with a tour van packed with people going on an island tour. Had to call several times, and got sliding ETAs. No apology when arrived. Did the tour in reverse - first stop to the distillery (because who doesn't want to imbibe in hard liquor first thing in the morning), was told another driver will pick us up, without any details other than the colour and make of the car - very comforting for middle of nowhere with a flight later in the day. 20 minutes after the tour ended, we were picked up, and dropped off a 2 minute drive away to the chocolate factory (i.e. we could have walked and not waited 20 minutes had we known), and the driver again had other passengers on another tour, to be dropped off in town. We were told he'd pick us up between 25 min and 1 hour. He showed up 1 hour 20 min later, radio silence, but were able to get through to him at the 1 hr mark - again very comforting if you have a flight to catch. To be fair to this second driver, he was very apologetic and explained that it was a cruise ship day and things get frantic. To cut a long story short, we decided to go back to the hotel because it was cutting it too close, and we didn't want to risk being abandoned again - so we skipped the Tanna Coffee factory and in-town stops. To Yumi Tours: first - if you know you can't deliver with quality, just cancel the tour proactively. You've been doing this for 8+ years and this undoubtedly is not your first busy day. If you thought you could deliver but couldn't, then be proactive and transparent to manage guest expectations. If you said at the very start - 'hey, it's a busy cruise day - we're probably going to be late - we'll call the front desk when we're 10 minutes away', we could have done other things with our life while waiting. Same thing with the next stops - as a driver it's easy to text / call head office to handle this, or call the sites directly - it's a small island. If the drivers notified us early we could have made alternative arrangements in the worst case. To prospective customers: this operator seems to best cater to cruise ships, and if you're a cruise ship passenger, then you're probably fine as hinted by the bulk of the 500+ positive reviews. If you are a hotel guest, buyer beware. In sum: this could have been managed much better. I appreciate that we received a decent partial refund without asking for the stops we didn't make, but the 2 hours and 20 minutes of collective waiting time (mostly outdoors in the heat) and the uncertainty, we could have done without. Afterthought: Vanuatu is a beautiful archipelago with very warm and kind people, and rich culture. It has a lot of potential, but its tourism industry is fragile, still recovering from COVID and the devastating effects of back to back cyclones. Every single operator needs to remind themselves that they are the ambassadors of their nation.
