Additional Information

Commencing at the castle, a notable representative of Italy’s medieval era, the guided Melfi tour demonstrates the fortress’s significant ten towers, seven rectangular and three pentagonal in shape.

Next, you’ll inspect the 2nd-century A.D. Rapolla marble sarcophagus, known as such for its discovery near the small town, 7km from Melfi. It sports an ornate relief, emblematic of Asia’s artisanal work.

The exploration proceeds within the eminent ‘Massimo Pallottino’ national archaeological museum. Here, you’ll witness celebratory objects from the VII-III century. B.C., Daunian pottery featuring geometric patterns, bronze armors, luxury silver, gold, and amber decorations, and bronze vessels hailing from Greek and Etruscan roots.

The journey concludes with a tour of the village and the 11th-century Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. The cathedral houses a spectacular Baroque wood craftsmanship collection, the bishop’s chair, and the pulpit.
