Additional Information

Experience the eerie side of Memphis and listen to stories of the city’s haunted past narrated by expert storytellers. The South Main Historic District – a vibrant, diverse area with some of the city’s oldest structures – boasts a history filled with dramatic murders and supernatural occurrences. During this two-hour outdoor walking tour, you’ll explore several haunted locations, including:
• The Orpheum Theater, where “Mary” has been haunting performances since 1921
• The John Alexander Austin House, a Victorian-era mansion haunted by ill-fated lovers
• The infamous Ernestine & Hazel’s, a former brothel known as one of the most haunted places in Memphis. We’ll take you inside this spooky venue (Wednesday-Sunday ONLY), which is home to multiple ghosts and a haunted jukebox.

  • Within a few blocks there are four different parking garages, and several open-air parking lots. The closest garage to our location (just two blocks away) is at 149 Peabody Place between Second Street and BB King Blvd., next to the Hampton Inn. You can try your luck with on-street metered parking, too, on Second Street just south of Beale; on Beale between Front and Second; or along Peabody Place from Front to Fourth Street.
  • This tour covers a distance of approximately 2 miles on public sidewalks with some elevation.
  • This tour is conducted outside and does not include entrance into any of these buildings. Please dress accordingly.

Interesting and memorable - Daniel was a great guide! His love for the city came shining through. He told the stories--historical and ghostly--with flair. He also told us about many places to eat, shop and tour that he loves. I'll remember them for next time.

Sheena Rocked! - The tour was amazing! We were on a family vacation and my 12 year old daughter wanted to go on this tour! So we did! We had Sheena as our tour guide. She is absolutely incredible. So knowledgeable about everything and passionate about the hauntings and their histories. She made the tour! We saw so much and many strange and unusual things! We thank you Sheena… from your girls in Mississippi!!! :)

Sadly, your tour guide matters - Past reviews raved about the tour guide and how great the story-telling was. That was not our experience. She was enthusiastic and knew a lot, but she added way too many unnecessary details and elaborations when relaying the history of each location and their subsequent ghost story which made it difficult for us to enjoy the story-telling and remain engaged. She also inserted personal comments and opinions throughout the night that abruptly changed the vibe and left us looking at each other in confusion. The two hours ended up feeling like three, and it wasn’t because of the walking. My advice is to double check with the office who the guide is going to be for the tour you want to book. They can let you know who the guide was on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 8:00 PM.
