Highlights
  • Mende - We will leave Mende, from the Place du Forail. Mende, the smallest prefecture town in France, but certainly very dynamic, and with a preserved historic heart, is worth the detour. We will quickly leave the Lot valley to reach the granite plateau of Margeride. Superb panoramas await us throughout this hour’s drive.
  • Scenovision de Saint-Alban - la Margeride a la Folie - It will take us about 1 hour to reach Saint-Alban-Sur-Limagnole. You will live an original immersive experience at the Scenovision of Saint-Alban, during the last tour of the local postman, in a period atmosphere. We will then take 15 minutes to discover the items on sale in the Scenovision shopping area.
  • Le Malzieu-Ville - We reach Malzieu in around 20 minutes. It’s difficult to visit Margeride without passing through the medieval town of Malzieu, classified among the most beautiful villages in France, and located in the heart of Gévaudan. Discover this territory for which the well-known legend of the Beast of Gévaudan has made it famous. After a commented introduction, you will have free time there to walk around the city and find something to eat (not included).
  • Reserve Bisons d’Europe - We leave Malzieu to reach Sainte-Eulalie and the European Bison reserve in around 30 minutes. La Margeride in Lozère can be visited at the same time as visiting the European Bison reserve, whose adaptation to the climate, geology and local flora seems obvious as the bison are here. Come and discover them by horse-drawn carriage, a ride of around 1 hour, up close to these prehistoric animals. It really is a discovery for all ages, without having to go to the ends of the earth. The visit is completed by a small museum space on the history of bison from prehistory to the present day.
  • Truc de Fortunio - We set off on the small roads of Margeride to reach the Truc de Fortunio (around 40 min), well known to Lozériens. It is essential to local life thanks to its huge relay antenna. It is also the highest peak of the Margeride from where the view is splendid. The orientation table allows you to see almost a quarter of France, from Mont Blanc to Plomb du Cantal. Do not miss. We will then return to Mende, it’s almost 1000 meters of negative altitude difference, in around 50 minutes.
  • Lac De Charpal - Charpal is one of the largest lakes in Lozère, with a wild spirit, and an untold history linked to the First World War. From a distance, this magical place looks like Canada.
  • Mende - 30 to 40 min drive to return to Mende. We will leave the granite of Margeride to return to the Lot valley.
