Highlights
  • Taman Ayun Temple - Located in Mengwi, Taman Ayun Temple is a grand state temple of the Mengwi Kingdom, encircled by a wide moat and constructed in 1634. The outer yard features an open grassy area and a meeting hall used for gatherings, dance performances, and occasionally cockfighting. The middle yard houses a tall wooden bell (Kulkul), and is separated from the outer yard by an open gate, while a closed gate divides the middle yard from the inner courtyard. The inner courtyard is home to numerous multitiered shrines (Meru), ranging from the smallest to the tallest. Visitors are only permitted to view the inner courtyard from the outside.
  • Jatiluwih Bali - Renowned for its stunning rice terraces, Jatiluwih Bali is one of the most picturesque spots in Bali. The drive between Jatiluwih and Batukaru Temple offers views of coffee plantations, durian trees, cacao, bamboo, avocado, and more. Jatiluwih Village boasts expansive and beautiful rice terraces, considered the best on the island. After the harvest season, you might see farmers plowing the fields with cows or buffaloes, still using traditional tools to manage their land.
  • Luhur Batukaru Temple - Heading north past Penebel Village, you’ll reach Batukaru Temple, situated in Wongaya Gede Village. This temple is significant for the western region of Bali and is dedicated to the god Mahadewa. The temple is surrounded by a tranquil forest at the base of Mount Batukaru. It features several Meru, symbolizing the mountain, a holy spring temple (Beji) on the eastern side, and a small moat with fish.
  • Wanasari - About a 30-minute drive from Batukaru Temple, Wanasari Village is home to a butterfly colony. The Butterfly Park showcases various species imported from Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Borneo, and Irian Jaya, and offers butterfly-themed souvenirs for sale.
  • Tanah Lot - Concluding the trip, Tanah Lot Temple is perched on a small rocky islet. Built in the 16th century by the Javanese priest Danghyang Nirartha, who also constructed several other sea temples around the island, such as Rambut Siwi Temple in western Bali, and Pulaki and Ponjok Batu Temples in northern Bali. On the western side, there is a small temple atop a rock with a hole, known as Batu Bolong Temple (Batu means rock and Bolong means hole).
