Cannot recommend enough - This was even better than expected!! We especially appreciated the market tour, the friendly easy atmosphere at the host's house, and the flexibility around our dietary restrictions (vegan/vegetarian). The market tour was a highlight - we got so much more out of visiting the market with a guide (Luz!) who could identify the different fruits and spices, explain how each is used, and offer us so many tasty samples (fresh avocado with sour orange, beans with ground pepita, different spices & sauces, sweet yuca). We never would have known some of these treats existed without Luz. Then we traveled to a different part of Merida to the host's house, which was a cool opportunity to be in a more residential area, for the actual cooking class. We made a multi course meal and all sat down to eat together which was a great touch. Every dish was so so good. Cannot recommend enough.

Great food and learning opportunity - We had a great time. We began with a short walk to the markets and then took a short collectivo ride to a local home for the cooking. The food all turned out delicious and it was a nice mix of information and doing some simple food prep. We really enjoyed the interaction and left very full of food.

Unmissable Experience - It the most amazing experience! Diego is a great guide, he took us deep in the street market so we could taste the local ingredients at their best and freshest. The cooking part was amazing too! To learn to use the local and ancestral produce was very unique and fun! I would recommend this tour to anyone who visits Merida, but if you like cooking then it is a MUST! 100/100!

Amazing experience, come hungry! - This experience was amazing and I would recommend to come hungry! It starts with a taste of some local fruits, followed by a cochinita pibil taco and some horchata. The market tour continues ending with cooking in a lovely local’s home. The tour guide, the homeowner, and her family were wonderful.

A fun & satisying meal - We enjoyed trying some of the fruits in the market that were unfamiliar to us. We also enjoyed prepping our phenomenal meal. The family was well organized & they provided excellent teaching (& were generally joyous & a fun addition to the experience). It was so satisfying to eat it all (it was a LOT of delicious food)! Perhaps the history part of the tour (while walking to the market) could be cut, because the whole experience took longer than we expected (until 3:00!). And perhaps Diego can be a bit more aware of people in the back (who couldn’t often hear him when he explained things in the busy market). We had a lovely time.

Delicious food. - Fabulous class. Laura Lopez was very knowledgeable and worked to accommodate my preferences. Dorcas was patient. Food was delicious and now I am sure I can make authentic empanadas.

So much fun at the market visit and cooking class! - We had an amazing time doing the market tour and cooking class! Our guide, Laura, was very friendly and helpful. The Lucas de Galvez Market was very vibrant, and it was so nice to have a local guide to help us navigate through it to find the ingredients. The cooking class was also fun for our entire family. Bertha was very warm and inviting, and made us feel like family in her home. Our kids loved learning how to cook Yucatecan. This experience was definitely a highlight of our trip, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who is considering it!

Perfect - Great tour! Exactly as advertised. Our family of 4 and another couple made up our group. We used a mix of Spanish and English with Luz (our translator) and Mercedes (the chef) as we all wanted to practice our Spanish more, but were at different levels. The market tour left me wanting to return with more confidence. Vendors and other patrons at the market were very nice to our group and answered lots of questions. Great photo opportunities! The home had plenty of space for our group, great ventilation in the kitchen (necessary once the chiles were roasting on the stove), and we made delicious food. It was like learning from grandma! Luz also helped with lots of random questions about Merida and took photos for us while we cooked. Our kids are already planning the empanadas and coconut creams they will make at home.

A most memorable Cookingclass with Laura, a must to do in Merida! - Yesterday we had a very nice Cookingclass with Laura in Merida! Its was so great to walk with her in the big Market first to buy all the things we needed for making a fourcourse lunch. Then bus to a private home where we met ”Mama” who was a superperson! There we prepared and ate our good lunch. We had all: 6 guest, Laura the perfect guide and ”Mama”, a most enjoyable and memorable moment together! Dont miss this tour with Laura when you visit Merida. It takes 5 hours, time just passed very fast indeed!
