Madih is a WONDERFUL tour guide! - For our first trip to Morocco we knew that we wanted to go to Fes; we knew that we wanted to go to Marrakech; and we knew that we wanted to go the Sahara. We did not know, though, how we were going to connect the three. Thankfully we found Madih! After a frantic 3 days in Fes we were picked up by Madih in a very comfortable and well equipped SUV for our trip to the Sahara. Our first day was spent learning a lot about Morocco as we drove from Fes to up to the mountains. We stopped in Ifrane (a really beautiful little town called the "Switzerland of Moroccoa" nd fed the macacs in the forest. Our drive continued through an unbelievably diverse topography and cimates. Madih did an amazing job of navigating the seemingly non-sensical Moroccan rules-of-the-road and provided lots of commentary regarding history and culture. He also prepped us for our arrival in Marrakech the next day with several videos about the souks and food markets. Our time in the Sahara was a cross between exhilarating and terrifying, and luxurious and spartan. This portion of the trip was operated by the camp and Madih was along for the ride, but not in charge. Our camel ride happened to coincide with a sandstorm . It was a wild experience and for a little while we were not sure that we would make it to the camp! We, of course, should have trusted our guide, but what did we know?! The camp was beautiful, the dinner was delicious, and the evening of making music around the bonfire was unforgettable. The downside is the INCREDIBLE lack of ventilation in the tents. While there are two small windows, there is no air circulation resulting in an inside air temperature much hotter than outside. We did not sleep a wink that night since being in contact with the sheets felt like having a hot water bottle wrapped around your whole body! The camp needs to fix this.... Madih took over again the next morning and led us on a 12 hour drive through the High Atlas mountains. It was an incredible drive and, again, Madih chauffeured us through some rather hairy driving conditions. He allowed us to rest when we wanted, answered questions when we had them, gave us several options of places to visit, and did a great job. Morocco was a frenetic vacation in a culture that we were not familiar with. It was wild and beautiful, but, at times, chaotic and overwhelming. Our time with Madih was wonderful, though, and he provided a glimpse into a Morocco that we would not have otherwise known. We highly recommend his service and cannot thank him enough!
