- Duomo di Messina - The Messina Astronomical Clock, located in the city’s cathedral, was crafted by the Ungerer company from Strasbourg in 1933. It is incorporated into the church tower, which was reconstructed at the start of the century following an earthquake, and is its most distinctive feature. The clock’s mechanism operates daily at 12:00 PM and runs for 12 minutes.
- Tempio Votivo di Cristo Re - This Military Shrine and Belvedere was originally built at the request of Richard the Lionheart, King of England, while passing through Messina during the Third Crusade. The fortress was later modernized to be part of the defense system commissioned by Charles V in the 16th century.
In the ancient tower that still stands, Charles of Anjou, known as “the Lame,” was imprisoned in 1284 after being captured by Admiral Roger of Lauria during a naval battle.
Destroyed by the 1908 earthquake, the Military Shrine of Christ the King was constructed on the esplanade where the bodies of those who fell in the two World Wars are laid to rest.
Atop the tower is a “bell” cast from the bronze of enemy cannons from the 1915-18 war. Standing at 2.80 meters tall and weighing 130 quintals, it is the largest bell in Italy.
- Viale Principe Umberto Scenic Overlook - A panoramic spot from which the port of Messina can be admired.
- Santuario di Dinnammare - The sanctuary of Madonna di Dinnammare is situated at the summit of the mountain of the same name, which is 1127 meters high and part of the Peloritani mountain range. The name Dinnammare comes from the Latin “bimaris,” as from its peak, one can enjoy views of both the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. Other studies suggest its meaning is purely Arabic, derived from Dinammar, composed of din (meaning ‘religion’ or ‘reward’ in Arabic) combined with the name ‘Ammar, a common name in medieval documents, indicating the land was given as a reward to ‘Ammar. From the church square, the city of Messina can be seen in all its splendor, along with the majestic strait. Looking towards the Tyrrhenian side, one can observe the bay of Milazzo and the volcanic Aeolian Islands.
- Don Minico - With a basket of bread on his shoulders and countless kilometers to walk, the long history of Domenico Mazza, also known as Don Minico, begins. His historic establishment, “Casa di Cura Don Minico,” is located on the Colli San Rizzo, in the locality of Quattro Strade.
- Scooter Rent - Piaggio Center - Scooter delivery service.
