- Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Antonio da Padova – Chiesa a Trullo - Constructed in 1926, the Church of Sant’Antonio, also known as the Trullo Church, was built during a time when Alberobello was modernizing. However, its design was heavily influenced by the traditional trulli style. This church was established to cater to the town’s growing population, which previously relied on the Mother Church of Alberobello, situated in the town’s upper area.
- I Trulli di Alberobello - World Heritage Site - Trulli are among the earliest examples of insulating architecture. Their design ensures coolness in summer and warmth in winter, thanks to walls and roofs constructed dry with limestone blocks. Air chambers between the stones help regulate the internal temperature. The conical roof, built without supports, consists of “chiancarelle” arranged in brackets in narrowing circles, culminating in a central opening.
- Rione Monti Neighbourhood - The Rione Monti district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located on Alberobello’s southern hill and features over a thousand trulli. The area is traversed by fifteen streets and is near Largo Martellotta, named for the three cisterns dug in the 1800s to collect rainwater.
- Trullo Siamese - Likely one of the oldest structures in Alberobello, the Trullo Siamese is notable for its distinctive continuous double cone roof. It consists of two interconnected cones sharing a central wall, setting it apart from other trulli, which typically have a single dome. The recess between the cones, visible externally, was expertly filled by the master trullo maker, giving the building its unique shape.
- Rione Aia Piccola - Aia Piccola is the oldest and most authentic neighborhood in Alberobello, named for its historical role as the town’s industrious agricultural area. Let’s explore this fascinating district!
- Museo del Territorio “Casa Pezzolla” - The former residence of doctor and intellectual Giacomo Pezzolla now houses the Civic Museum of Alberobello, dedicated to the local culture and history. For those interested in the city’s history, this is the perfect place to visit!
- Casa D’Amore - Built in 1797 by Francesco D’Amore, Casa D’Amore is the first house in Alberobello constructed entirely of terracotta, using mortar, following a royal decree that permitted such construction.
- Chiesa Santi Cosma e Damiano - The Mother Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano is a significant religious site in Alberobello, located in the historic center. Dedicated to the city’s patron saints, Cosma and Damiano, it dates back to 1784 and was designed to replace a smaller chapel that could no longer accommodate the congregation.
- Trullo Sovrano - The Trullo Sovrano is the only two-story trullo in the city, showcasing the construction expertise and innovation of 18th-century local artisans. It represents an evolution of traditional rural trulli, with a more complex and spacious design, intended for a wealthy family.
