- Ashàra Volcanological Guides in Sicily - Embark on a trekking adventure with a certified team of mountain and volcano guides who are eager to lead you safely and professionally to the summit of Etna. Enjoy breaks along the journey and capture unforgettable photos of the summit craters while taking in the breathtaking natural scenery.
Starting from Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza (Etna South), you’ll ascend to an altitude of 2,800 meters using a cable car and a 4x4 jeep. From there, a two-hour hike through lava flows and lunar-like landscapes will bring you to the Etna Summit Craters. Experience walking along the spectacular rim of the Central Crater, confront the dizzying Northeast Crater, and observe the renowned Southeast Crater, known for its recent and dramatic eruptions. In addition to the expansive summit craters, you’ll witness a unique volcanic environment featuring gas emissions, volcanic bombs, and vibrant ground colors caused by the sublimation of various elements, particularly sulfur. During the descent, you’ll visit the Barbagallo craters and traverse a lava flow channel.
Returning to 2500 meters above sea level via the Etna cable car, you’ll make your way back to the starting point.
Please note that as this is an active volcano, itinerary changes may occur if necessary.
