ITINERARY FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 4 - JANUARY 5, 2025

Florence’s Hot Winter Weekend: Embrace the Heat with Outdoor Adventures

Experience the unexpected warmth of a Florentine winter with outdoor adventures that embrace the heat. From e-bike tours through Chianti’s scenic vineyards to exploring the Tuscan countryside, this weekend promises indulgence and discovery under the Tuscan sun.

Morning Bliss in the Heart of Tuscany

As the sun rises over the rolling hills of Tuscany, the city of Florence awakens to a day of exploration and indulgence. The weather, unusually warm for January, invites you to embrace the outdoors and discover the hidden gems of this enchanting region. Begin your day with the Chianti E-Bike Adventure, a journey that promises a blend of thrill, creativity, and culinary delight. Available from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, this e-bike tour takes you through the scenic splendor of Chianti, where the devotion to heritage and nature is palpable.

The tour starts in the charming Piazza Matteotti in Greve, the only city in the province of Florence located in the Chianti area. As you pedal through the picturesque landscapes, the beauty of the Tuscan countryside unfolds before your eyes. The highlight of the tour is a visit to a hidden gem, an ancient abbey, where history whispers through the stone walls. A delightful lunch awaits at a local winery, where you can savor the rich flavors of Tuscan cuisine paired with exquisite wines. As one reviewer noted on October 18, 2024:

Beautiful scenery - The scenery was amazing! We LOVED it! Alberto made the bike tour so interesting. The bikes were so easy to use. The Abbey is a hidden gem. The lunch was perfect with the wine tasting. We had to do a lot of luggage shuffling to get the 5 bottles of olive oil and wine packed. If you know,…you know!

Afternoon Delights in the Countryside

As the afternoon sun casts a golden glow over the Tuscan landscape, continue your adventure with the Tuscan Countryside Bike Tour. Available from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, this tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the authentic Tuscan countryside, just a few kilometers from Florence.

The journey begins with a short walk into the small village of Vicchio, where you can stroll around its beautiful lake. As you ride into the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you’ll encounter a Romanesque Church, a Medicean-era Villa, and the home of the great artist Giotto. The tour is a feast for the senses, with stops to taste delicious local food and wines, and to discover the secrets of local cultivation and farming. A review from January 15, 2019, captures the essence of this experience:

Amazingly beautiful countryside! - We took this tour in January and even then, the surroundings were lush and beautiful. I can imagine how much prettier it would be with the yellow flowers covering the hills like it does in spring. Our tour guide Simone was very polite and knowledgeable about the area. The bike ride was fairly easy even us for us inexperienced riders. My kids particularly enjoyed the visit to the farm when they saw horses, cats, a pig, bunnies, and a turkey. The saffron tasting was interesting as I did not know much about it prior to the tour. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in Florence for a chance to do something off the beaten path.

Evening Reflections and Culinary Indulgence

As the day draws to a close, the warm hues of the sunset paint the sky, creating a perfect backdrop for reflection and relaxation. The Tuscan countryside, with its serene beauty and rich history, offers a sense of tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. Take a moment to savor the memories of the day’s adventures, from the thrill of the e-bike ride to the indulgence of Tuscan cuisine.

For those who wish to continue their exploration, the evening session of the Tuscan Countryside Bike Tour from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM provides a chance to experience the magic of Tuscany under the stars. As you ride through the countryside, the cool evening breeze offers a welcome respite from the day’s heat, and the twinkling lights of the villages create a magical atmosphere.

Whether you choose to end your day with a leisurely ride or a sumptuous dinner at a local trattoria, Florence’s hot winter weekend promises an unforgettable experience. Embrace the heat, indulge in the flavors, and let the beauty of Tuscany captivate your soul.
