Fantastic 8 hour tour - Our guide Marilena picked us up at our hotel and took us up to Sileni craters at 2,000 meters and patiently explained the multiple eruptions responsible for the various craters and lava flows visible from our walk around the crater rim. We then continued to a lava cave, the valley of the oxen and the terminal point of the 1991 lava flow, stopping meters from a house at the edge of Zafferani. After a tasting of olive oils, wines and honeys there, we went to the truly amazing Alcantara gorge. WALK IN HIKING BOOTS FOR ETNA BUT HAVE WATER SHOES FOR ALCANTARA!! Thank you Marilena for a magnificent day sharing with us your extensive knowledge of geology, botany and ecology!
