- Sorrento - Arrive in Sorrento and be instantly captivated by its beauty, standing on a terrace that rises steeply above the sea at one of the most stunning points on the Campania coast. Nestled between the mountains and the Mediterranean, this charming resort town is a must-visit for travelers in the region. Thanks to its location and mild climate, Sorrento was a favored retreat for ancient Romans. Spend about an hour in Sorrento, enjoying a leisurely stroll and appreciating the safe and relaxed atmosphere created by the locals. With lemon and olive groves interspersed throughout, this gateway to the Amalfi Coast boasts an unspoiled old quarter, a bustling main shopping street, and a breathtaking cliffside setting.
- Positano - Continue from Sorrento along the stunning narrow coastal highway to Positano, about an hour’s drive away, situated in the heart of the Amalfi coast. Like the legendary Sirens of Li Galli, this picturesque locale never fails to enchant its visitors. From the sea, Positano presents a dramatic vertical panorama of colors, from the green of the Monti Lattari to the white, pink, and yellow of Mediterranean houses. The ancient Romans built numerous lavish villas along this coast, the ruins of which can be seen near the Church dell ‘Assunta. The majolica-tiled dome of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta is visible from every corner of the town. Inside the church, a Byzantine-inspired icon of a black Madonna, dating to the 18th century, is preserved. After the road connected the town with Sorrento and Naples, the first tourists arrived in Positano, but these were no ordinary tourists; they were an elite group of intellectuals, artists, and celebrities who, from the early 20th century onwards, chose Positano as their preferred holiday destination. Positano is perfect for shopping, so spend about an hour here exploring the quaint and ancient streets to find unique treasures and souvenirs.
- Amalfi - Next, travel from Positano to Amalfi, the town after which the coastal drive is named. This beautiful and elegant place is known for its clusters of white buildings that shine like pearls among the towns strung along the Amalfi coast. After about an hour’s drive, arrive in one of the more level towns and discover how it sprawls up the hillside from the water, making it easier to walk compared to some of the other famous destinations. One of the most historic towns along the Amalfi Coast, Amalfi boasts a glorious history as a maritime republic, ranking alongside coastal powerhouses like Pisa, Venice, and Genoa. This prestigious town preserves significant landmarks, including the cathedral dedicated to St. Andrew, which dominates the square from the top of a staircase, and intricate alleyways of white houses stacked upon one another. Spend about an hour here and discover that the primary product is enormous lemons, freshly picked to make limoncello liqueur and used in local dishes. The lemon motif appears in regional ceramics, and the citrus scent fills the air as you wander around.
- Ravello - Finally, to complete this extraordinary day, leave Amalfi and travel to Ravello, a short 15-minute drive away. Nestled among the most precious gems of the Amalfi Coast, Ravello is renowned for its serene atmosphere and panoramic views. This hidden treasure, with its villas and gardens, is known as the City of Music and is home to Villa Cimbrone, Villa Rufolo, the striking Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium, and a vibrant cultural scene. With thousands of years of history, this enchanting mountaintop setting has captivated countless visitors, inspired artists, and ignited passion in many. There are still stories to be written along its medieval streets, in garden villas, and on ancient stone paths. After spending about an hour here, it will be time to return to Naples.
