Vesuvius, an active volcano in continental Europe, is one of the most extensively studied and dangerous due to the high local population and its explosive features; it peaks at 1,281 meters. A 20/25-minute walk uphill takes you to the crater. The crater entry ticket includes a 2-hour internal guide. Herculaneum was buried under ash and pumice after Vesuvius’s disastrous eruption in 79 AD. To visit its key structures, we strongly recommend a professional private guide. The guide, available on request, will allow you to skip the long queues at the ticket office, but isn’t included in the tour price. Upon request, lunch breaks can be arranged at a traditional local restaurant for an all-inclusive set menu with local fare, beverages, wine, and desserts.
