Wonderful tour of Ostia - Our private tour of Ostia Antica with Francesca G was AMAZING! Ostia is beautiful and fascinating. Francesca was on time, well organized, and clearly expert on Ostia. She is also a lovely and warm person. We all learned so much, including our daughter who had been studying Ancient Rome in Italy for the past several months. We would absolutely recommend Liv Tours and Francesca!

Wonders of Ostia Antica - Marco made the ruins of this ancient harbor town come alive for us with his well-informed discussion of the site’s history, culture and architecture. Short trip from central Rome via train, gorgeous landscape, and no noisy crowds. We could not have understood the significance of this site or been able to pinpoint the best spots to visit without Marco’s guidance. Highlight of our visit to Rome!

Fascinating and first rate - Our tour around the city of Ostia Antica with Valentina was exceptional. Valentina is a first-rate guide, knowledgeable, humorous and with a deep understanding of the site which allows her to point out a host of fascinating detail in what we were seeing. We truly felt that the ancient city and its people were brought to life around us. She was also extremely kind and patient with our two young children (9 and 7) and sought to engage them by pointing out features and telling them stories they would enjoy. Highly recommended and one if the highlights of our visit to Rome.

Great private tour of Ostia Antica - We had a fabulous private tour with Barbara! She was so knowledgeable and fun, she really made it come alive. The tour started when Ostia opened first thing in the morning and we had the entire site to ourselves for almost 2 hours. More people should visit Ostia Antica and learn more about the port’s history. It’s a beautiful green space with so many ruins, statues and frescos. The regular small-group Liv tours are great, but I love doing the private tours. We’ve had only good experiences with Liv Tours.

You may not have heard of Ostia Antica, but GO anyway! - We really had no idea what to expect when we booked this tour. We knew we just wanted to get outside of Rome proper for a few hours, and this seemed like a nice option. Upon meeting Marco at the start of our tour, we knew we had made the right choice. His enthusiasm for Ostia was infectious. This is not a well- known place among tourists, but should be! We had an ancient Roman city all to ourselves! The ruins of ancient Ostia are impressive and hearing Marco’s stories brought it all to life. This was once a bustling epicenter on the coast, and we could picture it. Ask for Marco at Liv Tours on this one!

Ostia Antica with Barbara - This was a fantastic tour! Barbara knew all the ins and outs - just where to go - her enthusiasm for the site and the history was contagious! You really get to understand how people lived in Ostia - for example you see the bar/restaurant where people were served (the bar was fairly intact - so no problem visualizing), the laundry, bread bakery, etc. Barbara could answer all our detailed questions - we left with a good sense of how life in the city was organized and operated day to day. A very easy trip outside Rome - the tour itself is 2.5 hours - so plenty of time left in your day to do something else. Would highly recommend.

The hidden gem - Ostia Antica - OK, not exactly hidden, but virtually no other tourists were at this site, which demands at least as much of your attention as the Colosseum, the Forum, and the other popular tourist sites of Rome. The ruins here are in remarkable condition, and span a large range of the activities of a Roman port city - large enough that getting the most out of your visit mandates a tour. Massimo, our guide, was great - he steered us efficiently through the site, showing us the don't-miss features of Ostia, all while providing helpful historical background to put the ruins in context. He was also great at allowing us room to go off the beaten path when particular ruins caught our eye (and he had information for those cases as well, he's quite well prepared). Bravo, Massimo!

Great Tour!!! - We had a great tour with Uta! She was very knowledgeable about Ostia and excited to tell us about it. Uta brought us to all of the more interesting sites in Ostia and was able to answer all of our questions.

Step back in time! - Wow! We had a 3 hour private tour of Ostia Antica (Ostium) with Rose and not only was her expertise amazing, but her passion for history and Roman culture were very clear. She took us on an adventure through ruins that she played in as a child and clearly has a very deep connection to. Before going we thought the price of the tour was a little expensive, but within minutes of meeting Rose it became evident that our money was incredibly well spent. There were numerous times during the tour that both my wife and I remarked to each other that we were so glad to have gotten the tour with Rose because she brought the 2700 year old site to life with historical context and fascinating facts. You will not regret getting this private tour experience if you love history and want to really understand the world of the Ancient Romans. Grazie Mille, Rose!

Incredible Walk Through the Ruins of Ostia - Alessandro was our private tour guide for my son and me at Ostia Antica. We started our tour at 9 AM. Arriving at Ostia Antica was not difficult, but it does take a bit more effort than the standard tour in Rome. My son and I took a taxi from the Pantheon to train station EUR Magliana, which cost something around Eur 16. Then we took the 20 minute train to Ostia Antica station -- that ticket was only Eur 1.50. From the train station at Ostia Antica, it was just a short and enjoyable 5 min walk to the entrance of the archaeological park, and Alessandro was waiting for us there.
We were practically the only visitors in the park at that time, and it was a magnificent experience walking through the abandoned city ruins with my son and our guide. We saw lots of incredibly detailed mosaics and other art, including images of what the city must have looked like at that time, and we felt that we had full access to the park.
It was certainly a wonderful break from the crowds of Rome, and it is a must-see for anyone who is interested in the history of Rome. Our guide was friendly, spoke good English, entertained my mediocre Italian, and went out of his way to ensure that we had a very enjoyable experience.
