- Ectagono- Ectarea - The temazcal, a traditional sweat lodge utilized by various ancient cultures in Mexico like the Mexicas, Mayas, Zapotecas, Mixtecas and other indigenous groups, is typically constructed as a hut or dome made from mud, stone, wood, or branches covered with fabrics, depending on the region. Inside this structure, hot rocks are placed at the center to generate heat, and water infused with medicinal plants is poured over them to create steam that has therapeutic properties and is used for both physical and spiritual well-being. The temazcal serves as a space for purification of the body and mind, connection with nature, and honoring ancestral traditions. Revered as sacred by many indigenous communities, this practice is still use in various parts of Mexico as part of healing rituals. Huitzi, is our main shaman, originally from a small town in Oaxaca. Since moving to Mexico City a few years back, he founded Aldea Tonatzin, a place dedicated to preserving the authentic traditions of the Zapoteca culture. Presently, along with María, his friend and apprentice, they run the traditional Zapoteca temazcal with the goal of sharing the Zapoteca heritage worldwide.

LIFE CHANGING - Maria was the best!! I’ve never felt like that before. I was the only one during my experience and im glad that it happened that way. She told me the history on the way to the temazcal which really set me up to receive and embrace everything. Once we got there I felt the energy. Especially being under the full moon. We went into the temazcal and her guidance really set the tone. I will definitely be back everytime im in Mexico city!!

One of favourite experiences ever!! - This was one of the most transformative experiences of my life and was definitely the highlight of my stay in CMDX!
I wasn't sure what to expect but felt very looked after and held through the process. The location just outside of CMDX was beautiful and immediately calming.
Huitzi and Maria both created an environment from the beginning that felt true to who they both were, rooted in historic practice and also accessible to those of us experiencing the temazcal for the first time.
I recommended Maria and Huitzi to many of my friends and went on to do some more experiences with them later! Can not recommend more!

best experience in CDMX - This is a MUST when visiting Mexico City. This is an authentic pre-hispanic ritual that will leave you feeling reborn and connected. The heat awakens your inner warrior as you breathe through the uncomfortability the reward is priceless. The hosts and guide are extremely kind and supportive throughout the entire experience. 10/10 recommend joining this.

Thanks for the unique experience - An experience that renews your soul in many ways, it is amazing to find such beautiful spaces within Mexico City. Maria and Huitzi are very good hosts, recommended if you want to discover an authentic Zapotec experience without leaving the city.

The best temazcal in CDMX!!!!! - It seems incredible to me to be able to find a good temazcal within the city. Being originally from the state of Veracruz, I loved being able to experience a different tradition, Huitzi. and María are extraordinary guides, authentic guardians of the Zapotec culture. Thank you very much María and Huitzi for this satisfactory experience.

A meditative sweat - I experienced the Temezcal ritual, it was amazing. The setting and location were so authentic. My guide, Maria was wonderful, informative and chill. After it was over my body and mind both relaxed and recharged. I’ll be back for sure!!!!!

Amazing Temazcal Experience - This was my 1st Temazcal and I went into the experience with an open mind and heart. We were picked up from a Starbucks location and driven to the grounds of the Temazcal by one of Huitzi’s students, who was on time and very professional. When we arrived at the grounds, we were given a tour of the area and greeted by Huitzi. We then changed into our clothes for the ceremony and received a drink of hot cacao. While we were drinking our cacao, we were given a history of the Temazcal and the background of Huitzi. Prior to entering, we were individually given some intentions to focus on. Once everyone was in, the heated lava rocks are placed in the middle, the hole was covered, then came the sweat! Huitzi and his team were great during the entire ceremony and made sure everyone feeling well to proceed. Throughout the entire experience, Huitzi‘s words were translated superbly and seamlessly to avoid interrupting the flow of the experience. After crawling out the hole, we individually rinsed off under a cold shower and laid on the ground to process what happened. Then, we were given fennel tea to drink, and some time to speak about our Temazcal experience. We were then driven back to Starbucks. Overall, it was an amazing time, and I would love to return!
