Highlights
  • Mexico City - The pick-up is scheduled for 7 am at your accommodation in Mexico City. The transfer will take you to Paso de Cortés, the entrance to the Iztaccihuatl volcano.
  • Paso de Cortes - This is where the office and entrance to the Iztaccihuatl - Popocatepetl National Park are located. Here, we will register, receive our entrance bracelets, and start taking photos. The altitude here is 3,700 meters above sea level.
  • Parque Nacional Iztaccihuatl - Popocatepetl - We will drive 7 kilometers on a dirt road to “La Joya,” the parking area and starting point of our hike. We will now be at 4,000 meters above sea level. We will ensure our bags have enough water and snacks. Trekking sticks will be provided. The hike begins with an ascent and includes three stops: the first at 4,240 meters, the second at 4,370 meters, and the third at 4,524 meters. The total distance is 5 kilometers. You will enjoy stunning views of the active volcano and take beautiful photos. If the sky is clear, you may even see Toluca’s volcano (the 4th highest in Mexico) and La Malinche (the 5th highest). During the hike, we will eat our lunch and snacks. The return route is the same until we reach the vehicle.
  • Mexico City - The drop-off will be at your accommodation in Mexico City. Please consider that traffic in Mexico City can sometimes be challenging.

The hike takes place on the Iztaccihuatl mountain volcano range, the third highest peak in Mexico, and is adjacent to the active Popocateptl volcano, the second highest. You’ll experience a challenging hike with stunning views. Starting at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level, you’ll reach a maximum height of 4520 meters. The hike can be tailored to your needs. On a clear day, you might see Mexico’s third and fourth highest mountains from the trail. The scenery is unique, featuring mountain flowers, short plants, and variously sized rocks.

Great Hike! - Our guide, Ruben, was fantastic! Great guy! He knew the volcanos and let us hike at our best pace up the mountains.

Good trip with beatiful views. - Guide arrived on time, we arrived without any problems. Guide was allowing to walk in our pace. However be aware that this hike is quite physical, altitude climb is steep.
