Highlights

Alex lives with his wife Alejandra (Ale) in downtown Mexico City, just blocks from the Plaza de la Constitución. Alex is a K3 teacher in the American School Foundation, while Ale is a professional tour guide who is passionate about sharing her Mexican culture and cuisine with guests. Ale has a wealth of knowledge about the country’s history, anthropology, folklore, and of course, culinary traditions. Alex drew inspiration to cook from his grandfather who would serve delicious nopales (grilled cactus paddles) at his home every Sunday. He learned to cook watching his mother and experimenting in the kitchen after watching food shows on TV. The smells and flavors of his childhood and family meals inspired him to cook more, and now he loves sharing this knowledge with his 6-year old students during their regular cooking class. Both Alex and Ale love sharing meals with friends and family as much as they enjoy cooking. The food that they serve is a mix of modern Mexican dishes as well as Pueblan cuisine, where Ale comes from. While you sip on your welcome drink, Alex and Ale will talk to you about the importance of food in Mexican culture. After your cooking class sit down together to enjoy a meal that includes 3-4 dishes and one or two salsas followed by a dessert. Your meal will be accompanied by beverages like fresh hibiscus water and if you select alcohol, beer and mezcal. Your menu may include traditional and modern Mexican dishes such as picadillo tostadas, enmoladas or flautas or a variety of tacos which will be served with a selection of salsas like salsa verde or roja. Your meal will conclude with a dessert like sweet Mexican corn cake. Please note: This experience is great for travelers traveling with children! Points of Interest - Traveling Spoon

Additional Information

Alex and Ale, a lively, local couple, are devoted to introducing their Mexican heritage and food to their visitors. Experience an exclusive, self-made Mexican cooking session and feast in their humble yet dynamic apartment.

Involve yourself in Alex and Ale’s kitchen and acquire the skills to prepare 3-4 classic Mexican food items including a self-made salsa. You may be taught how to prepare dishes like flatuas, tostadas or enmoladas, which are chicken-filled corn tortillas prepared in a mole sauce. Mole is a rich, chocolate-based sauce full of various spices, widely loved in Mexico and simple to cook - an excellent sauce to learn for your own Mexican cooking collection. Since Alex and Ale’s kitchen is a bit small, you will likely be doing most of the cooking prep in the bar area, using the kitchen for the final cooking stage. Enjoy a communal meal featuring the homemade Mexican dishes you learned to cook with this charming pair.

If there’s a specific Mexican dish you’re particularly interested in learning, don’t hesitate to inform Alex while placing your booking.

Terrific Cooking Experience - Our entire experience was absolutely fabulous. Luis was a perfect teacher and host - and his wife Ana was so charming and very much made us feel at home in their apartment. Luis is clearly an extremely knowledgable and talented chef - and is a very good teacher! The entire experience was relaxed and informative - a terrific experience for our group.

🤙 - Alex was personable and made our group of four women feel comfortable in his home. As someone who grew up eating a lot of Mexican food, I wasn’t certain how much I would learn, but I learned a LOT. It was fun, interactive, and the food? delicious. Easy walk up a flight of stairs from the street and a clean, small apartment. Nice to do a private event and let our teens be loud and have fun. We also enjoyed this was at night, so we could spend the day exploring, rather than many other classes are in the middle of the day. Alex planned a perfect meal for a cool night and accommodated our dietary restrictions, nicely. He was prepared and professional.

Fun night of cooking eating and drinking! - This was quite a delightful experience. We were welcomed into Alex’s home and he was such a friendly and gracious host and a wonderful teacher! He offered us drinks and sat down and talked about our evening ahead. He had purchased all the food but we were the chefs! My husband never cooks and Alex was patient and gave great instructions! He had so many hints and information about the food and process and culture. We prepared an appetizer, 3 types of salsa , Main dish and dessert . All incredibly delicious! We enjoyed our time in the kitchen and then sat down for drinks and appetizers at the bar and then at the table for dinner. Conversation was easy and it was such a fun night. We would highly recommend this activity!

Highly recommend this cooking class on night one! - I was a little skeptical to participate in a cooking lesson in a foreign country on the first night, but it was AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this as a first night in Mexico City event. The hosts Alex and Ali were so gracious (and patient) while we cooked a phenomenal meal of salsas, flautas, and a delicious corn cupcake. This event was really the highlight of our trip. The hosts answered so many of our questions about Mexican cooking and general travel tips. If I come back to Mexico City, this will definitely be on our list. It was a surprise for my partner, and she had a blast.

Amazing Cooking Class with Luis Delgado! - We took a lesson with Luis Delgado at his home in Condesa. Him and wife treated us like family and we had an amazing time learning to make different salsas and traditional Mexican dishes. Will definitely be back to see Luis and his new restaurant when we’re back in Mexico City!

Cooking with Alex - We could not have asked for a better experience!! Alex welcomed us in and made us feel like we were at home, right from the beginning. He picked the perfect menu, we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the dishes, while cooking them and sharing the meal together was outstanding! We will definitely be making these dishes again, at home, to share with family and friends. We look forward to cooking with Alex & Ale again the next time we visit Mexico City.

Wonderful fun experience - Alex & his wife Alejandra were so gracious. Before our arrival in Mex City, they were certain to ask if anyone in our group had food allergies so they would be prepared. Their home was small but very comfortable and relaxing. Their English was great. Their joy, laughter & fun spirits during our visit was contagious. Alex is a teacher, but he loves to cook. Alejandra is a tour guide. The combination is a recipe for a wonderful time. Oh, and the food was delicious too! Highly recommend!
