Amazing experience, we learned many things that will be taking home to our own kitchen! - Jim gave us a wonderful experience today. The market tour was very interesting and he had a lot of information on the history of food evolution. We had so much fun making the tamales, homemade tortillas and the fantastic Monet with chicken, apple, and pineapple. We definitely learned things that will be taking home to our own kitchen. Couldn’t give it a higher mark! And the cider and beers were interesting to taste as well. Definitely booked this when you’re in town.

Market, mole, and tamales! - This was a wonderful class! Jim includes the history and origins of the ingredients of Mexican cuisine and makes the market tour interactive and different than any other class! The tamales were delicious and we learned a new method for keeping the masa moist and flavorful. The first time we had mole verde and I’ll be making it at home! The atmosphere was welcoming and beautifully decorated with local art and even the plates and bowls we used added to the experience. If you’re in Mexico City, Jim’s class is worth it!

The best cooking class/tour. Don't even think about doing a different option but Martaja! - Book this now! Simply put, this was one of the best experiences in our trip to Mexico City. The tour of the market was absolutely lovely and informative. With such a large market, I wouldn't have known where to start but Jim showed taught us so much about current and historical ingredients. He was so personable and the class flowed so well. I will forever carry the things he taught me and remember this class every time I make my own mole, tamale, or tortilla. It felt like I was cooking at a friend's house that also happened to be an expert chef. So comfortable there and he even made us some traditional cacao drinks at the end that was the perfect cap to the perfect evening.

Highly recommend the cooking class + market tour - We did the market tour and three course meal cooking class. The market tour was fantastic, Jim shared about the history of how ingredients crossed continents and developed into Mexican cuisine today. The dishes we made all turned out delicious. Everything was very clean and sanitary. Jim has done a lot of training and clearly knows his stuff, he’s also very open and personable. Highly recommend this course, I’m sure all of his classes are great, but I would recommend this one with the market tour.

Must do for foodies! Book Martaja! - My husband had such a wonderful, meaningful time on this tour with Jim. We booked ‘The Works’ Market Tour, Cooking Class and Mexican Feast and it was so worthwhile! Jim was warm and inviting with a wealth of knowledge and passion for Mexican food and its origins. We learned a lot. I appreciated all the details from the beautiful locally made spoons and bowls and decor in his lovely Condesa home! The meal was delicious and I have never made such flavourful authentic Mexican food and this knowledge I gained will last a lifetime for me! I left feeling SO inspired and happy to have found this tour and support Jim’s dream job :)

Awesome - Awesome - This was an absolute amazing experinece. Shopping in the market was one of the best I many other market/cooking classes I have taken. The authetenic approach to cooking was awesome. The only suggestion I have is to shorten the evening - the entire day was too long.

A great food experience! - Jim was a great host! I learned an amazing amount about the origins of food and its movement around the world. It was the best meal I had in Mexico City and feel confident that I can try and replicate it at home. We even learned about chocolate and prepared our own hot chocolate. I have no hesitation in recommending this experience

Book this tour RIGHT NOW - Words cannot express how wonderful this experience was. Jim was a delight, so knowledgeable and truly went above and beyond. This was part of my wife and I’s honeymoon, and it could not have been more perfect. He imparted so much interesting info about ingredients and cooking, his house was the perfect setting, he was so generous with food and drink, even his cats were delightful and stole the show! If you are considering booking this tour-stop considering and just book it. If you are debating between this and another, book this one. I would have gladly paid more and will absolutely continue booking with Jim and refer more people his way!!

Outstanding Culinary Experience - This is no mere cooking class; it is an explosion of epicurean delights! We took the private class which allowed us flexibility with menu planning. Chef met us at the Medellín where he taught us about the history of the spices and ingredients we’d be using. While we made móle, tamales, and salsa, Vincente spoiled us with a divine cactus salad and a lesson on herbs such as papolo and epazote. We also learned how to use tequesquité, which was super interesting! Jim wove stories and traditions honoring “las abuelitas” throughout the evening. We really appreciated the use of local and ethically farmed ingredients. Even our delicious craft cocktails were made with locally distilled liquors. This was the best culinary course we’ve ever taken! Thank you both for giving us this incredible experience! It was the highlight of our time in CDMX. We’ll be back!
