Unleashing the Adventurer Within: A Thrilling Trek Across Erg Zahar and Sidi Naji
When the call of the desert beckoned, I couldn’t resist the allure of the Erg Zahar and Sidi Naji trek. With a heart full of adventure and a thirst for the unknown, I embarked on a journey that promised to be as thrilling as it was unforgettable.
Crossing the Atlas Mountains
The journey began with a thrilling drive from Marrakech to M’hamid, crossing the majestic Atlas Mountains. The Tizi-n-Tichka pass offered breathtaking views that made my heart race with excitement. The rugged terrain and winding roads were a reminder of the adventures that lay ahead. As we descended into the Drâa Valley, the landscape transformed into a tapestry of ksours and kasbahs, each telling a story of the region’s rich history. The anticipation of meeting the camel herders and spending a night under the desert stars was palpable.
Trekking to Sidi Naji
The next morning, we set off on foot towards Sidi Naji. The desert stretched out before us, a vast expanse of ergs and regs interspersed with tamaris. The Kraab range loomed in the distance, a constant companion on our journey. The rhythm of the trek was meditative, each step sinking into the soft sand. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we set up our bivouac amidst the dunes. The silence of the desert was profound, broken only by the crackling of the campfire and the whispers of the wind.
Conquering the Dunes of Erg Zahar
The highlight of the trek was undoubtedly the great dunes of Erg Zahar. Standing at the base of the towering sand dunes, I felt a familiar thrill coursing through my veins. Climbing the great dune was a challenge I couldn’t resist. Each step was a battle against gravity, but the view from the top was worth every ounce of effort. The undulating sea of sand stretched out as far as the eye could see, a testament to the raw beauty of the desert. As we bivouacked at the foot of the dunes, I reflected on the day’s adventure, grateful for the opportunity to explore such a magnificent landscape.
