-
Loop Road - Continue straight. You’re traveling along what is known as the Loop Road. While it may be easy to drive now, it was certainly not easy to construct. In 1915, Miami businessman James Jaudon had a vision. He imagined a highway cutting across the South Florida swamp, facilitating the easy transport of goods.
-
County Road 94 - How did this area become a national preserve? It all began with plans to build an airport. When the Everglades became a national park in the 1940s, the federal government couldn’t purchase this land from private owners, leaving it vulnerable to development. In the 1960s, a plan was unveiled to build the Big Cypress Jetport here, which would have been the largest airport in the world at the time.
-
Gator Hook Trail - Up ahead is Gator Hook Trail, offering a unique experience. This moderately challenging, 5-mile round trip hike starts on dry land but soon leads hikers into ankle-deep water, eventually reaching knee-deep or even hip-deep for shorter travelers!
