A Journey to the Heart of Jamaica’s South Coast

The moment I set foot in Middle Quarters, I knew I was in for a treat. The South Coast of Jamaica is a hidden gem, a natural paradise that promises an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As a former professional surfer, I’ve traveled to many coastal destinations, but there’s something uniquely captivating about this place. The air is filled with the scent of the ocean, and the lush greenery stretches as far as the eye can see. I was eager to embark on the South Coast Tour and explore the wonders that awaited me.

Our first stop was the breathtaking YS Falls. The journey to the falls was an adventure in itself, as we rode in an open jitney, taking in the fresh air and the stunning scenery. The falls were a sight to behold, cascading down in a series of natural pools that invited us to take a refreshing dip. I couldn’t resist the thrill of swinging from the ropes into the cool, gushing water. It was a moment of pure exhilaration, a reminder of the simple joys that nature offers. The canopy ride above the waterfall provided a different perspective, allowing me to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding jungle from above.

Cruising the Black River

Next on our itinerary was a relaxing boat cruise along the Black River. As we glided through the water, our knowledgeable guide shared fascinating stories about the history of the town and the river. The Black River is one of the longest navigable rivers in Jamaica, and its mangrove forests are home to a diverse array of wildlife. We were lucky enough to spot crocodiles basking in the sun and egrets gracefully perched among the trees. The tranquility of the river was a stark contrast to the excitement of the falls, offering a peaceful respite in the heart of nature.

The boat ride was a chance to unwind and reflect on the beauty of the South Coast. The gentle sway of the boat and the soothing sounds of the water created a sense of calm that was hard to resist. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with island life in the first place – the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

A Unique Experience at Floyd’s Pelican Bar

Our final destination was Floyd’s Pelican Bar, a one-of-a-kind establishment located in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. Accessible only by boat, the bar is made entirely of driftwood and offers stunning views of the turquoise waters that surround it. As we approached, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder at the ingenuity of its construction.

The Pelican Bar is more than just a place to grab a drink; it’s an experience in itself. Sipping on a cold beverage while standing in the shallow waters, I felt a deep connection to the ocean that has always been a part of my life. The laid-back atmosphere and the friendly locals made it easy to lose track of time, and I found myself wishing the day would never end.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the water, I reflected on the day’s adventures. The South Coast of Jamaica had exceeded my expectations, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, thrilling experiences, and moments of tranquility.
