This church, which was finished in the early 18th century, is built over the remnants of a Moorish fortress that existed from the 8th to the late 15th century. Before the Moors, the Romans utilized Mijas, then known as ‘Tamisa’ or ‘Jamisa’, as a significant hub for commerce and trade due to its proximity to the route that connected Malaga and Cadiz.
