Additional Information

Milan is often regarded as the most cosmopolitan city in Italy, deeply imbued in age-old customs while ceaselessly envisioning the future.

In recent times, Milan has claimed the title of the food capital of Italy, owing to the prominence of celebrity chefs and the melting pot of varied gastronomic traditions from around the globe. Yet, Milan remains anchored in its historical customs and practices: one of the dearest being the Milanese aperitivo. Nestled in the shadows of the majestic Duomo, the tradition of the Milanese aperitivo was first initiated. Here, the locals unwind after work at a local bar, savoring a drink and enjoying salami on the side.

What a variety of food experiences! - This tour took place in an area a bit far from where we were staying in the central city, so it gave us the opportunity to see another part of Milan. Specifically the lively canal area. Very different from the rest of Milan, had a more funky vibe with tons of restaurants and bars, and nightlife and colorful graffiti. Everywhere. Started off down the canal through sidestreets to a innovative bar that provided itself on interesting combinations. And interesting they were. And onto a more traditional wine bar with prosciutto and cheese appetizers. Kept walking through the neighborhood to a restaurant for our entrée, which featured baked potatoes with a huge choice of fillings. Very creative. Then onto a street food location that featured fried rice balls with a variety of fillings. And excellent gelato for dessert. All the while being told about the area by our very learned tour guide.
