The Silver Mines at Mineral de Pozos - We live full-time in San Miguel de Allende, and recently had family visiting from the US. We wanted them to experience some of the interesting history of Mexico. We have used Catrina Tours before, and were very glad to have Diego once again as our guide for our first visit to the silver mines located at Mineral de Pozos. Diego is an experienced guide and speaks fluent English. His knowledge of Mexican history runs deep, and he has a nice, informal way of sharing it. After picking the seven of us up at our home, we drove to visit an organic lavender farm close to the mining area of Mineral de Pozos, about an hour from San Miguel. The farm visit was a bonus and we learned about the science and hard manual work involved behind extracting the essences of lavender. We then visited the large site of an abandoned silver mine and toured the ruins of the buildings there. Diego is well-versed in the processes involved as well as what is known about the lives of the miners. The tine flew by, and we were then treated to lunch (included with our tour) at the modern hotel Tesoros. Diego ordered their unique tapas specialties to share, and we enjoyed informal conversation as we ate. This was our second tour with Catrina Tours, and we highly recommend them. Diego told us that they design tours tailored to client’s desires to maximize the experience.

Love going on a tour with Diego - Enjoyed all. The mines were very interesting and how they extract the medals but I loved the tour of the lavender fields. Lunch was very interesting and tasted great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. Perfect day.

Wonderful day outside of SMA - Every bit of the trip was great! Brenden (driver) and Diego (guide) arrived just as we'd agreed. I love driving through the countryside to see where I'm visiting, and this was an interesting one hour trip. The site itself, the ruins of a mercury mine, was very beautiful -- I expected to see photographers and models everywhere, but in fact, we were quite alone. The space is very evocative. Diego spoke of the workers and their lives and the mysterious owners and the mining processes -- he made this little-documented site very accessible. We walked through a (rightly called) Pueblo Magico after, then toured a cooperative lavender mine. Lunch was at a surprisingly upscale hotel (also pretty deserted) down a rough dirt road with a gorgeous modern menu. The whole day was wonderful, special. As an aside, my daughter and I are interested in linguistics issues -- turns out Diego knew more than us about language. We felt he could talk knowledgeably about any random topic! Truly memorable day.

A fantastic cultural journey! - Catrina Tours did a first class job with this tour. I read about Mineral de Pozos and really wanted to go but knew I would get the most out of with a guide. I did a lot of research and found Catrina as the top rated. That was the right move! The booking process was very quick and they provided me with lots of information about the tour after booking. All expectations were outlined. Not only did I have an excellent guide (Alejandro) I had a driver as well (David)! That allowed us to move around quicker and always have transportation waiting as we moved about. I truly enjoyed the abandoned mines. It's like a true ghost town for almost over a century. We had another guide join us who lead us through one of the mines. I learned so much how these people endured this difficult job! The town itself is quite charming, although quiet. I am grateful to Catrina Tours, Alejandro and David for such a memorable experience!
