Roebuck Bay - Cruise the waters of Roebuck Bay (Yawuru Nagulagun), a heritage-listed marine park rich in history, culture, and marine life with countless stories to tell. Discover 120-million-year-old dinosaur trackways, World War II plane wrecks, or simply take in the stunning scenery, birdlife, and abundant marine life.
Within Roebuck Bay, we visit Dampier Creek, named after the explorer William Dampier, the first Englishman to set foot on Australia’s Kimberley coastline in 1688.
Dampier Creek is steeped in the multicultural history of the pearling days when 400 pearl luggers would gather in its sheltered waters to collect shells for the pearl button industry.
The creek is lined with 23 different varieties of mangroves, creating a vital ecosystem for many bird species and marine animals, and showcasing the region’s significant tidal range. -
