Additional Information

Visiting Caral you will experience the first cradle of civilisation emerged in about 5000BC, these ancient people with bountiful food on hand in the rich ocean, rose at around the same time as five other major civilisations in the world. They built stone pyramids here, for instance, at exactly the same time that the Egyptians were building their much more famous counterparts.
If this new advanced culture was not famous for art or ceramics, it was its architecture that was its strength. The same grand pyramids and temples of worship that are still partly standing around.
You will discover this fascinating place in a private car that will pick you up from your hotel and with a bilingual guide from Lima, who will translate what the authorized guides in Caral will explan during the tour.
Then you will visit Bandurria Bandurria an early coastal fishing settlement featuring the first evidence of a ceremonial stone architecture.

Amazing to finally see it in person - I highly recommend this trip to history/archaeology buffs and those looking to get a taste of the north. The picures on Wikipedia and elsewhere on the web do not do Caral justice -- it feels entirely different standing in front of the pyramids and walking around the site. As someone who has been to Teotihuacan, learning about the religious functions of the site, as well as the different phases of its development, gave so much color to what had previously appeared to just be colorless ruins. My understanding of the region has grown a lot. The infrastructure around the site is also becoming well-developed, with tons of pictorials and illustrations explaining life in the region thousands of years ago. Bandurria is also a fantastic archaeological site to visit, as it is adjacent to a sort of inlet swampy area between the plain and the sea. This site is also rife with history, and both sites leave you begging for more (and indeed, both are awaiting further excavations). Lastly, the lunch stop on the way in Huacho, as suggested by the tour, was just incredible. It topped the other restaurants I ate at in Lima the week before. The sheer quality of the food was seriously a huge surprise and a highlight of the trip. I would definitely recommend getting it in between seeing the archaeological sites -- walking around Caral builds an appetite and walking around Bandurria helps beat the food coma!

Amazing journey - Breathtaking to see in person. Pictures do not do Caral justice; it is a sprawling site. Doing the tour this way allows you to see it on your own terms and was fantastic.

Excellent - The whole day trip is a bit exhausting, but worth it if you are a history fan or want to explore the ancient civilization. Though Bandurria is much smaller than Caral, it's better preserved and has a great coastline lagoon view. It should be closed on Monday, but the agency arranged the local guide just open for me. Highly recommended.
