A Stroll Through the Vines

As the sun cast its golden glow over the rolling hills of Mischi, I found myself stepping into a world where time seemed to slow down, and every moment was savored like a fine wine. The Azienda Giovanna Tantini vineyard tour was not just an exploration of grapes and vines, but a journey into the heart of Italian winemaking. Guided by the passionate and knowledgeable Giovanna Tantini herself, I felt privileged to wander through the lush vineyards, each row telling a story of tradition and innovation.

Giovanna’s enthusiasm was infectious as she shared the philosophy behind her winery. Her dedication to preserving the authenticity of the region’s varietals while embracing modern techniques was evident in every word. As we walked, she pointed out the different grape varieties, each with its own unique character and contribution to the wines we would soon taste. The air was filled with the earthy aroma of the soil, mingling with the sweet scent of ripening grapes, creating an intoxicating blend that heightened the anticipation of the tasting to come.

A Symphony of Flavors

The tasting began with Custoza, a crisp white wine that danced on the palate with its vibrant acidity and floral notes. As we moved to the reds, the Bardolino offered a light to medium-bodied experience, its flavors unfolding like a well-composed symphony. The signature DOC Garda Corvina followed, a wine that spoke of the vineyard’s identity with its rich, velvety texture and complex layers. Giovanna’s pride in this creation was palpable, and it was easy to see why it held a special place in her heart.

The tasting concluded with two wines dedicated to Giovanna’s children, Ettore and Greta. Ettore, a blend of Corvina, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, aged to perfection, was a testament to the family’s commitment to excellence. Greta, a 100% Corvina, was a revelation, its grapes dried in the vineyard, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth and character. Each glass was a celebration of the vineyard’s legacy, a tribute to the passion and artistry that defined the Azienda Giovanna Tantini.

A Promise to Return

As the tasting came to an end, I found myself lingering in the warmth of the vineyard, reluctant to leave the enchanting world that Giovanna had so graciously shared. Her husband, too, has a vineyard in the area, and though time did not permit a visit on this occasion, it is a promise I intend to keep on my next journey to the Lake Garda region.
