With an estimated age of between 4,000 and 10,000 years, the Thar Desert sprawls across around 200,000 square kilometers of land. Also known as the ‘Great Indian Desert’, it’s the world’s seventh largest of its kind. Situated in Pakistan, the desert spans the eastern Sindh and southeastern Punjab provinces. Owing to its pleasant climate and great accessibility, it’s often referred to as a ‘Friendly Desert’. Home to approximately half a million people, 70% of which are Hindus, it is a humble abode spread across 13,000 square kilometers with the majority living in mud houses. Our trip will feature visits to Jain and Hindu temples, an ancient mosque, and experiential insights into the desert’s culture.
