This Byzantine structure is considered one of the most significant examples of medieval art and architecture, representing Byzantine culture in its purest form. Additionally, it is one of only four St. Sophia churches in the old world, originally intended to spread Christianity throughout Southern Europe.

  • Plaoshnik - Uncover the hidden archaeological site of Plaoshnik. This stunning area is adorned with various ancient remnants, including mosaics, columns, and walls. The church here offers a breathtaking view of Lake Ohrid, making it an ideal spot for a perfect picture.
  • St. Jovan Kaneo - As described by Dutch writer A. Den Doolaard in his book “The Wedding of the Seven Gypsies,” this romantic location is where heaven and earth meet. It’s no wonder that many young Macedonian couples choose to exchange their vows here. This is also the first image you’ll encounter when searching for Ohrid online.
