• Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares - Starting from Plaza Enrique García Herrera, we embark on a journey to capture the essence of Malaga, taking in views of the Guadalmedina River and the Puente de los Alemanes, along with churches and brotherhoods tied to the fervent Holy Week traditions in Malaga, such as the Church of Santo Domingo. We will also pass by the Unicaja Museum of Popular Arts and Customs, established in the sixties as a unique space to explore the city’s archaeological and ethnographic heritage.
• Mapas y Compania - Strolling along C/ Compañía and its vicinity, we will uncover businesses and artistic expressions with great character, hidden among streets of Muslim heritage, like this original bookstore that sparks our imagination. Additionally, we will encounter religious and cultural imagery, with beautiful displays of fans, wicker crafts, and flamenco dresses. We will also see how avant-garde elements blend seamlessly into these historic spaces, exemplified by the façade of the Thyssen Museum in Malaga.
• Sacred Heart Church (Sagrado Corazon) - Situated in the historic center, this neo-Gothic church was constructed in 1920 based on a design by architect Fernando Guerrero Strachan. It features a basilica plan divided into three naves.
• Plaza de la Constitucion - Our knowledgeable guide will share the history of this iconic square, whose name has changed with Spain’s political and social shifts. Highlights include the Fountain of the Three Graces, the legendary (now gone) Café Central, and the diverse coffee culture in Malaga, where a “cloud” is more than just water vapor. We will also enjoy majestic views of the Cathedral, insights into the square’s role as a hub of artistic, cultural, and leisure activities, and references to Picasso’s significance in the city, as well as popular spots like Pimpi and The Bell.
• Pasaje de Chinitas - From the entrance, we will experience the timeless PASAJE DE CHINITAS, renowned worldwide for over a century as a special place for FLAMENCO, where singers and dancers showcased their “duende” in bars and taverns along the passage.
• La Calle Larios - The main street of the city, built between 1887 and 1891, serves as the nerve center and historical heart where the best of Malaga’s commercial, artistic, and entertainment life unfolds: Casa Mira, century-old pharmacies still dispensing master formulas, and views of the old sea entrance, among others.
• Plaza De Felix Saenz - In one of Malaga’s most iconic squares, we will learn about the stunning façade of the old ALMACENES DE FÉLIX SÁENZ, a symbol of the city’s cultural and economic life, along with its history and renovation process. We will also experience the square as a popular meeting spot for locals during shopping and leisure time, and discover sculptures and hidden corners not easily noticed.
• Edificio Sagasta, 5 Guerrero Strachan - Located at Sagasta Street No. 5, on the corner of Herrería del Rey Street, this building was constructed in 1925. It is a narrow house that fits into a corner, forming a kind of keel.
• Mercado Central de Atarazanas - Our guide will highlight the most interesting aspects of the products and stalls within the market, the Muslim walls that once surrounded the city, the old shipyards that occupied the market’s current location, and the architectural, artistic, and historical elements. We will also explore traditional and modern businesses in the surrounding streets.
