- Museo Carmen Thyssen Malaga - Since 1992 the Thyssen family’s art collection has been on display at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. However, Carmen Thyssen has been an art collector in her own right since the 1980s, and her personal collection is shown separately across the most beautiful cities in Spain. In 1999, she agreed to display many items from her collection in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum for a period of twelve years. Meanwhile, a home for her collection was sought in Málaga. This museum, a conversion of a sixteenth-century building, opened to the public on 24 March 2011.
The Carmen Thyssen Museum of Malaga is dedicated to conservation, research and the dissemination of the Carmen Thyssen Collection in order to emphasize the value of Spanish painting, especially that of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, fully referenced in its historical and artistic context, for the understanding of all audiences, which forms part of Malaga’s strategy as a cultural city.

Great Museum Visit - The visit was a wonderful 2 hour museum visit. The painting collection was impressive and well narrated using an audio self guide using my smart phone.

Lovely art museum in Malaga - We would highly recommend a visit to this lovely art museum in Malaga.
There is a lovely collection of Andulasian art at this museum.
We also enjoyed a lovely lunch in the museum's cafe.

Enjoy some great art and escape the sun for a couple of hours. - Beautifully laid out art museum focussing on 19th century Spanish painting with works from artists of other nationalities and some 20th century works. There is also a room of "old masters".
The cafe serves very good coffee and delicious cakes (lunch too) and the museum shop has a wide and interesting selection of books, posters and gifts.
Tip if you are budget conscious, the entry prices reduce at 2.30pm, which still gives you plenty of time to view the works.

For lovers of 17 - 19 century paintings a must see. - Great Museum if your are interested in the great masters / fin de siecle with a lot of Spanish paintings on 3 floors. Very well curated and brought togheter with a storyline on each entrance per floor. Can recommend.

For those who love Spanish painting - The perfect place to discover Spanish and local painting.
We see very well the evolution, the progression of art through the ages.
A really pleasant moment when you can contemplate a work without
worry about other visitors (few people).

Good museum option to visit for those who have less time available. - Small museum but with many works of art that make us stop and observe every detail! It has paintings about Spanish everyday life from other times. These pictures are mostly super colourful and full of life! I like it. We can keep our bags in the cages. Which is great for those who have just arrived in the city before checking in or for those who have already checked out and still have time available to see the interesting points of Malaga.

Free on Sunday - We didn’t have to queue for very long to go in here, but had to have our bag scanned by security before entering. There weren’t many other visitors at 4pm on the Sunday we were there. Enjoyed seeing the Sorolla paintings. Toilets on every floor. Lockers available for a refundable 1 euro. Small roof top terrace with room for only 11 people. Well stocked shop, but the staff member was more interested in dusting than letting me pay, so we left without buying anything.

The exhibition on top floor holds more promise. - Portrays Spanish life in late 19th century until the 1910’s or so. I was expecting more of the exceptional art work that was displayed in their museum in Madrid and the Prado. This failed miserably with the exception of two pieces perhaps which had French influence and were nudging to a more emancipated style.

A rather classic museum - A painting museum of classical Spanish art. Don't expect to see contemporary art there.
I was a little disappointed.
Despite everything, it is a beautiful place and certain works deserve attention.

I booked the museum in the wrong city. It was my fault. - I booked the Thyssen Museum in the wrong city. The museum in Madrid would not honor our tickets. It was my fault. Be careful when booking. The Thyssen has museums in several cities.
