Casa Salkantay Museo Restaurant - The journey starts with a hotel pickup in Cusco at 5:00 am, followed by a transfer in a tourist vehicle to the town of Mollepata. Here, we meet our team who will accompany us throughout the trek. Breakfast is on your own. We then proceed to Marqoq’ Asa, where the hike begins to a viewpoint offering views of two valleys (Mollepata Valley and Marqoq’asa). The trek continues to Soraypampa, where we enjoy a well-deserved lunch before ascending for 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the Humantay Lagoon, situated at 4220 meters above sea level. After taking in the beauty of this location, we descend back to Soraypampa.
Camp from Suyroccocha to Challway (Chaullay)
Salkantay Trail - After a refreshing wake-up, a hot cup of Coca tea is served in your tents to ward off the morning chill. We prepare our gear to start a beautiful day of trekking to the Salcantay pass, experiencing both the cloud forest and the subtropical forest.
On the second day, the hike involves more trail walking than the previous day. Although the climb to the top is challenging, the views are even more breathtaking. The descent is a rocky path leading to a tropical forest area at the base of the Salkantay mountain.
Challway to the “Playa” camp
Salkantay Trail - The morning offers a stunning mountainous landscape. Today’s trail is a natural green path leading to the beach, with rivers that are tributaries of the main river of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the “Urubamba River.” Most of the time, we will be near the white river of Salcantay, encountering wild strawberries along the path (if in season), wildflowers, orchids, birds, passion fruits, avocados, coffee plantations, bananas, and pineapples. The walk lasts approximately 5 hours, ending at the camp in the settlement of La Playa.
Llactapata - Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu)
Hot Springs (Aguas Calientes) - We leave La Playa early in the morning to avoid the humid heat of the sun, embarking on a short trek towards our final pass of the trip. Today, we follow the original Inca Trail from Lucmabamba to the Llactapata Pass, crossing the Santa Teresa Valley with its diverse landscapes (lush nature and a serene Inca trail). Upon reaching the Patallacta ruins, we get our first view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding Andes mountains, which offer incredible vistas. We also explore the Llactapata Incan site. Then, we descend through dense bamboo and coffee forests (Valle de Aobamba) along a path leading back to Hydro (a two-hour steep descent to the riverbank). From the Aobamba river, the road to Hydro is an easy walk to the village of Aguas Calientes, following the train tracks for the last two and a half hours.
Machu Picchu
Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - Early in the morning, we take a bus to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, we present our entrance tickets. The guide will provide a 2-hour tour of Machu Picchu. Afterward, we return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Finally, we head to the train station to board the train to Ollantaytambo, and then travel by bus to your hotel in Cusco.
