The adventure kicks off bright and early with a 4:00 am pickup from your Cusco hotel while the city is still asleep. Enjoy the sunrise over the Andes during the scenic drive to Mollepata, where breakfast awaits before heading to Challacancha (3,800 m), the starting point of your trek.
Embark on a 5-hour hike to Soraypampa (3,900 m), taking in the sights of cascading rivers, lush valleys, and the majestic Salkantay Mountain. After a well-earned lunch, ascend to the breathtaking Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m), where turquoise waters mirror the snow-capped peaks.
Return to camp for tea, dinner, and stargazing, and relax in your cozy cabin as the Andes cradle you to sleep.
Humantay Lake - Set out on an afternoon journey to the captivating Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m). The hike to the lagoon is a challenging climb, but the reward is indescribable. The lagoon’s crystal-clear turquoise waters reflect the surrounding snow-covered mountains, creating a scene of unmatched beauty. Take time to soak in the tranquility, capture unforgettable photos, and perhaps participate in a traditional offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth), expressing gratitude for the natural beauty around you. As evening falls, descend back to the base camp.
Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Wayracmachay – Colpapampa
Salkantay Trail - Walking Distance: Approximately 22 km
Elevation Change: From 3,900 m up to 4,650 m, then down to 2,800 m
Begin the day early with coca tea and breakfast before tackling the trek’s highest point, the Salkantay Pass (4,650 m). The ascent is demanding but offers breathtaking views of towering peaks and glaciers. At the summit, participate in a traditional Pachamama ceremony to honor Mother Earth.
Descend into the lush cloud forest, surrounded by vibrant greenery and cascading rivers. Enjoy a scenic lunch at Rayanniyoc (3,300 m) before continuing to Colpapampa (2,800 m). Relax at camp with optional hot showers and Wi-Fi (extra cost), then conclude the day with tea, dinner, and stargazing.
Colpapampa – La Playa – Santa Teresa – Cocalmayo Hot Springs

Elevation Change: From 2,800 m down to 2,000 m
Awaken to the sounds of tropical birds and nearby streams. After breakfast, continue the descent into the lush cloud forest, filled with vibrant flora like orchids and bromeliads. Along the way, spot colorful butterflies and hear the distant calls of wildlife.
Pass small plantations where locals cultivate coffee, bananas, and avocados, offering a glimpse into traditional farming. By midday, arrive at La Playa (2,000 m) for lunch and relaxation.

Santa Teresa – Hydroelectric - Aguas Calientes
Aguas Calientes - Walking Distance: Approximately 18 km
Elevation Change: From 2,000 m up to 2,800 m, then down to 2,040 m
After breakfast, trek along an ancient Inca path toward Llactapata (2,800 m), where a stunning view of Machu Picchu awaits in the distance. The guide will share fascinating insights into Inca history. Then, descend to Hidroeléctrica Station, passing waterfalls and lush landscapes, and enjoy lunch there. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic 3-hour walk along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes (2,040 m), reflecting on the journey. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax or explore the town before dinner. The guide will prepare you for the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu – Cusco
Machu Picchu - Today marks the grand finale of the journey. Depart early at 4:30 am to witness the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Choose to hike the 1.5-hour ascent or take a bus (optional, additional cost of 12 USD). As the sun rises, the ancient citadel emerges from the mist, creating an awe-inspiring sight.
After entering, the expert guide will lead a 2-hour tour, unveiling the rich history and mysteries of Machu Picchu. Explore its sacred temples, terraces, and stone structures, marveling at Inca ingenuity. After the tour, enjoy free time to explore further—perhaps hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) or enjoy a quiet moment surrounded by the stunning landscape.
