Trekking from Momella Gate (1387m) to Miriakamba Huts (2514m)

Miriakamba Hut - The adventure begins with a meeting at Jevas Hotel in Arusha, where a briefing will be provided for the upcoming journey. The thrilling safari to Arusha National Park’s Momela Gate then kicks off. Upon arrival, the guides will handle the entry permit process, and the trek to Miriakamba Huts will start, accompanied by an armed park ranger. As the hike progresses through open grasslands, keep an eye out for giraffes, buffaloes, and other wildlife. After about two hours, Maio Falls will be reached, offering a perfect spot for a relaxing break and picnic. Continuing onward, the famous “fig tree arch” will be passed before arriving at the final destination, Miriakamba Huts. Here, afternoon tea and snacks will be served, marking the end of the day’s trek.

Trekking from Miriakamba Huts (2514m) to Saddle Huts (3570m)

Mount Meru - Following breakfast, the ascent begins along a steep, wooden path. As altitude is gained, the air becomes noticeably cooler than the previous day, making the climb more comfortable. The rainforest often envelops itself in low-hanging clouds, creating a mystical atmosphere in the lush surroundings. After approximately two hours of uphill trekking, the “Mgongo wa Tembo” (Elephant Back) lookout point, situated at 3,200 meters, will be reached. Here, a well-deserved break and stunning panoramic views await. The landscape transitions from dense rainforest to heather and moorland, and Saddle Huts will be reached around noon.

Upon arrival at Saddle Huts, a warm meal will be served to replenish energy before retiring for an early night, as the wake-up call is scheduled shortly after midnight.

Saddle Hut (3570m) to Socialist Peak (4565m) to Miriakamba Hut (2514m)

Mount Meru - Rising at midnight, the ascent to Socialist Peak begins, preparing for a challenging and strenuous climb. With headlamps illuminating the path, the journey through the bushland leads to Rhino Point (3,821m). The sections leading to both Rhino and Cobra Points are particularly steep, so extra care is advised during the ascent. After approximately 4 to 5 hours of intense trekking, the summit of Socialist Peak will be reached. Here, a breathtaking sunrise over Mount Kilimanjaro, along with panoramic views of Mount Meru’s crater, dramatic cliffs, and central ash cone, will be the reward.

The return journey follows the same route back to Saddle Huts, where a restorative break with hot soup and tea can be enjoyed. From there, the descent continues to Miriakamba Hut for rest and recovery.

Miriakamba Hut (2514m) to Momella Gate (1387m)

Mount Meru - After breakfast, the descent to Momella Gate begins. The early morning hike offers a fantastic opportunity to spot wildlife, as animals are typically most active during this time.

Upon arrival at Momella Gate, the Suricata Safaris team will be ready with a vehicle to transport everyone back to Jevas Hotel in Arusha, a scenic 40-minute drive away, where relaxation and unwinding await.
