The deepest canyon in the world, relative to its width, according to the Guinness Book of Records 1997. We begin by descending to the riverbed of Vikos from the village of Monodendri. We hike along a varied environment, relatively rough in a very few places, fairly easy in most of its route. It is a canyon wide in some places, narrow in others, and crossing it offers a unique combination of a short duration (6 to 8 hours) and excellent views. We rest in picturesque spots, like the springs of river Voidomatis, one of the cleanest rivers in Europe and we end up our hike at the village of Vikos, or at the village of Mikro Papigo.which is a Litohoro bit further and our mini buss will pick us up from there late afternoon

VIKOS GORGE – Boasting the title of the world’s deepest gorge in relation to its width, as recognized by the 1997 edition of the Guinness Book of Records. Our journey commences as we descend to the Vikos riverbed from the town of Monodendri. The terrain we traverse is diverse, challenging in certain areas while largely being manageable. The gorge, broad in some areas and tight in others, presents a distinct blend of a manageable duration (6 to 8 hours) and stunning vistas. We pause at idyllic locations, such as the spring of the Voidomatis river, reputed as one of Europe’s purest rivers, concluding our venture either at the town of Vikos or Mikro Papigo. Considered the premier and most renowned hiking trail in the region, it’s accessible all year and suitable for children aged 8 years and above.
