Starting from Piazza Garibaldi we will go up the ancient Via dei Mercanti to stop in some churches with unmistakable Baroque decorations. Among all, the cathedral dedicated to the Madonna della Madia, the Byzantine icon that came from the sea, which you will see reproduced in numerous votive aedicules among arches and alleys. And again the churches of San Francesco d’Assisi adjacent to the town hall, San Domenico with its fascinating rose window, Santa Maria del Suffragio with its skeletons. From Portavecchia beach we will follow the sixteenth-century city walls to reach the Carlo V castle and the old port with its fishing boats. And finally a tasting of typical Apulian products!
