Esteban was a fantastic guide and we got to see the resplendent quetzal! - Our birdwatching tour with Esteban was amazing and I got to see the resplendent quetzal -- one of my lifers. Esteban was easy to reach and communicative throughout the whole process. When I first emailed him about a tour and told him I wanted to see quetzals, he was very accommodating and said we would be able to play by ear and decide the day before which reserve would give us the best odds. He came highly recommended by other birders and we were so glad that we went with him for our tour. Super knowledgeable and clearly loves birds and does this because he enjoys it.

Incredible Birding Tour - We had a wonderful birding tour with Dernierth from Esteban Daily Tours. We saw so many birds and he was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about birding. We wouldn't have been able to find or ID as many birds as we did if we hadn't had a tour with such a patient and wonderful guide. The other tour guides from Watebam Daily Tours shared info with each other which helped spot so many unique and wonderful birds of the area. Dernierth kept an eBird list and shared it with us at the end, toted the heavy scope and recognized the calls and spotted them with expertise. I highly recommend Dernierth and Esteban Daily Tours for novice and expert birders.

Thanks to our guide we discover many beautiful birds of Costa Rica - The owner Esteban was very helpful answering all my questions regarding the tour. The morning of the tour it was pouring rain and so windy. We expect not seeing any birds. Our guide Justin was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Facing the bad weather he proposed we visit another site than the Curi Cancha. Has he explain moving to another valley we can find out better weather and sun. And we did ! We saw lots of birds and the sun light was wonderful. It was a wonderful experience.

Amazing Day with Raul in Curi Cancha!!! - We were recommended Esteban's birding tour from a good friend and the experience was amazing. Two of us went with Raul, who was incredibly impressive. We fed off his enthusiasm and he knew every bird call in Curi Cancha. We are medium-serious birders from a different hemisphere, and Raul made us feel welcomed in the Tropics and we learned so much about the birds of the area. 45+ species seen today, eBird checklist & spotting scope included. Honestly, probably better than an official tour through the park! - We had a great time! We saw so many birds, and really enjoyed seeing curi cancha park. The tour starts around the CASEM coop, and then you stop for coffee and snacks before heading to the park. I honestly think our guide Derniert was more experienced than the park staff would be. He did biological field work and worked as tour guide in Monte Verde before moving to work independently. He was so knowledgeable about specific places in the park where we would have a higher chance of seeing birds, and answered all of my little random questions I had been wondering about different ecosystems in Costa Rica.

Absolutely hire this... - Absolutely hire this guide as we found 50 species of birds and he is a biologist. I could not have seen the species we saw without this very knowledgeable guide.

Perfect birdwatching experience - Esteban is a true professional with passion for his craft. We saw countless birds and the tour flew by. Some of our favorites included toucanettes, squirrel cukoo, hummingbirds (including the largest hummingbird in Costa Rica, the Violet Sabrewing), and the iconic and elusive Quetzal! Thank you, Esteban for a fantastic introduction to Costa Rica. PS: We also got to see a big family of monkeys and agoutis!

Monteverde Magic - What a great experience we had with Dernierth, our guide on this tour. He was so knowledgeable and taught us so much, took care to stop, show us beautiful birds and explain, not just a tramp through the forest. His biological knowledge of everything in the forest was incredible and he was a lovely person to spend the morning with, despite the rain. We are novice bird watchers but really enjoyed the experience. He took some lovely photos for us using his scope.

Super Informative Guide - Esteban is an extremely passionate and knowledgeable guide. I think you would be hard-pressed to find a more insightful guide in Costa Rica, and certainly at Curi Cancha. The tour isn't cheap and given this price tag we would have preferred a slightly higher pace so that we would have covered a larger area of the reserve, but of course a slower pace makes the tour more accessible and makes it more likely to spot birds in the areas you do cover. So it's a justifiable tradeoff.
