Amazing Cloud Forest with Johnny - It was already our second tour with Johnny Loves Nature and there was already confidence, so everything flowed perfectly. Johnny is a very prepared Guide who knows everything you ask of the forest and more. We enjoyed getting to know the cloud forest, appreciating a lot of birds, reptiles and mammals as well as a variety of amazing flowers. Among all this, we were lucky enough to see an elusive quetzal and many other very interesting things explained perfectly by Johnny who is a great scholar and forest connoisseur. Great experience!

Excellent tour! - Great tour. Didn't actually see a ton of wildlife but the guide knew about it all. Probably spent too much time talking about the creatures and not enough time looking for them. He is always ready to please tho. When he realized we wanted to see quetzals, he immediately offered to take us over to curi cancha park after the regular tour. We jumped in his van and he ran us over there where we saw several quetzals along with other wildlife. It was awesome.

Amazing birdwatching experience! - Johnny was so much fun! We had a great time learning and looking for birds. He is open, caring, and knowledgeable. We saw a beautiful hummingbird and even a quetzal (a rare find!). Highly recommend booking with Johnny if you want to take your time and enjoy nature.

Worth Every Penny - Our guide was Piña and we had an amazing time with him. We showed up early and he was already there and ready to take us in. He was super knowledgeable about the local wildlife and plants, and was able to hear and point out things that we never would have noticed. His English was perfect and he had almost every plant and animal name memorized in English and Spanish. We know he wasn't making it up either because there was a couple of birdwatchers we ran into and he had a very in depth conversation with them that was fascinating to be a part of. We were lucky enough to see a quetzal, but that was also thanks to Piña knowing the different sounds the male and female make to each other. 5/5. If you don't take a guide with you to Monte Verde, you aren't going to scratch the surface of what there is to see.

Beautiful forest - We enjoyed our trip through the cloud forest, and our guide was knowledgeable. We saw some good views of tarantulas in their hidey holes. Our favorite part was seeing the hummingbird gallery on our way out. Their iridescent feathers are stunning!

Decent tour, but not the best place. - I would recommend this tour if you cannot go to any other tours in the area. It was good because our tour guide was engaging, but the scarcity of the wildlife (visual) was sad, considering this is where we should have seen a lot more animals than anywhere else in CR, other than the most remote places like Osa Peninsula. Also it would have been totally fine for us to not spend so much time waiting for quetzals but focus more on the rest of the wildlife existing in the Cloud Forest. Finally, I don't think Monteverde Cloud Forest is the best place in general--do try other reserves in the area if possible. So crowded that we couldn't hike on one of the trails. I only went to this one because the one I wanted never replied to my email inquiries.

Underwhelming experience - My partner and I went in feeling very excited with high hopes to learn a ton about nature (huge nature geeks over here) and cautiously optimistic that we would see some wildlife. While we can't control if we see any wild life (unfortunately, we saw very minimal creatures), there wasn't much engagement/interaction from our guide (though he was nice) and we didn't learn much. We were hoping for Johnny as our guide due to his reviews and did not have him. The majority of the tour was spent looking for the queztal and it felt very rushed. We drove from La Fortuna for the tour (3 hours) and I would not recommend this for someone traveling that far.

Bad new good news - The first recommendation i will make is not to use Jonny loves Nature tour. I discovered that Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve has their own private bird tour. Their price is also $90. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve includes a free breakfast valued at $12.00+ per person , free admission into the park valued at $26, and the tour lasts for 5 hours. Johnny loves nature tour charges $90. There is no breakfast , your tour lasts 2 to 3 hours, and the $26 admission into the park is not included. This is fact!! So I suggest all of the people interested in the bird watching tours go thogh the Monteverde Cloud Forest website. As far as Jonny loves nature we arrived at the Monteverde Park entrance at 6.30. No one was there to met us. The tour itself started at 7 am. Please note. The park opens at 7am and there is no internet prior to that time. There was other tour groups waiting to start thieir tour. We walked up to one of them and the tour guided asked for our bar codes for the tour. Since it was before 7am the park was not open and there was no internet. We were confused with the process because know one tour group had signs to identify which tour group was which. About 10 minutes of 7 am we left with the other tour group on their tour. Apparently, Jonny claimed that he arrived at 6.50 for his tour that started at 7pm. Personally I felt he should have arrived earlier that 10 minutes before the tour with a sign. He did try to call me at 7.07 to ask where we were but inside the park there was not internet. We ended up paying for two tours. One with Jonny the other with Monteverde park system. By the time of the first break for breakfast at the park i was able to communicate with Jonny. (Please note durnig the breakfast break Jonny's tour was over., and the tour we were on had another 3 hours) He claimed that it was my fault I left with another tour group. And my payment to him was lost. The bright spot i can help othere looking for bird tours at the Monteverde Cloud Forest

Not recommended - Heavily overpriced and they recommend you to pay for a parkingspot and then go further to the entrance with a shuttle bus, they charge extra for that. It is way easier to go there by car (if you have any). You cannot bring water to the park yourself. You have buy water there which is also overpriced. I do not recommend going here.
