Eduardo Venegas is a seasoned tour guide who possesses a deep understanding of local plant and animal life. Having devoted over two decades to the field of eco-tourism, he has a particular fascination with Costa Rican bird species, having spent considerable time conducting research and study of the myriad species that inhabit this compact nation.
He made notable contributions to the photography and technical review process of the publication ‘An Illustrated Field Guide to Birds of Costa Rica’, released by Incafo Costa Rica S.A.
Venegas’ latest and significant research focuses on the presence of the oilbird (Steatornis caripensis) in Costa Rica. This bird is a rare nocturnal creature in Costa Rica and originally hails from South America, being the only night-flying bird with a diet solely composed of fruit. Since 2010, Venegas has been investigating the behaviour, habitat, and dispersion of this bird in collaboration with INBIO (Costa Rica’s National institute of Biodiversity and MINAET).
