A Day of Adventure Begins

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that promise both excitement and bonding opportunities. So, when I heard about the Ocho Rios Adventure in Montego Bay, I knew it was a must-try. Our day began with JD, our driver, who picked us up a little after 8 am. His punctuality and communication were impressive, keeping us updated on his ETA as he navigated the morning traffic. From the moment we met him in the hotel lobby, JD’s warm hospitality set the tone for the day. He handed us the aux cord, offered a WiFi hotspot, and played some fantastic music that had us grooving in our seats.

JD’s driving skills were impeccable, making us feel safe on the sometimes unpredictable island roads. He was more than just a driver; he was a knowledgeable guide, answering all our questions about the sights we passed. His attention to detail was remarkable, even stopping for towels when we realized we didn’t want to use the hotel’s. Our first stop was for lunch at a lively local spot, where we enjoyed authentic Jamaican cuisine and the vibrant atmosphere.

Horseback Riding and River Rafting

The horseback riding experience was a delightful start to our adventure. Riding through the forest and onto the beach was a serene experience, even though my boyfriend’s horse was a bit stubborn. We didn’t venture too deep into the water, but the gentle waves lapping at the horses’ hooves were enough to make the experience memorable.

Next, we opted for the Blue Hole instead of Dunn’s River Falls, and it was a decision we didn’t regret. The Blue Hole was a hidden gem, with its stunning turquoise waters and lush surroundings. I recommend getting a life jacket, even for strong swimmers, as the current can be quite strong. My boyfriend braved all four jumps, while I enjoyed the view from the sidelines.

The river rafting was a pleasant surprise, reminiscent of a Jamaican Venice. Gliding along the river, surrounded by the sounds of nature, was a peaceful contrast to the adrenaline-pumping activities. The abundance of fish and birds added to the charm, making it a highlight of the day.

Thrilling ATV Ride and Unforgettable Memories

Our adventure concluded with an exhilarating ATV ride. Due to my epilepsy and visual perspective issues from a TBI, I chose to ride double with my boyfriend. It was the perfect decision, allowing us to enjoy the thrill without any worries. Our guide, who had a hand in building the track, was enthusiastic and encouraged us to go fast, making the experience even more exciting.

Throughout the day, JD’s attention to detail and genuine care for our experience stood out. He even stopped for photo ops, ensuring our memories were captured perfectly. The “shroom wizard” stop was a quirky addition, adding a touch of whimsy to our adventure.

As we returned to our hotel, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the incredible day we had.
