This excursion is aimed at bird enthusiasts and can be customized to suit the individual or group’s requirements and proficiency. The experience lasts approximately 4 hours and involves the services of a private guide only. The clients must arrange their own travel and pay for admission fees at the trailhead directly.
Engaging a knowledgeable guide can significantly enhance a forest trek. With a guide, the woodland becomes lush, lively, multifaceted, and animated with mutual associations. You might get to observe exclusive and incredibly infrequent bird species. We strive to involve all ages and backgrounds to optimize your naturalist stroll. Suitable for novices or experienced birdwatchers.
- Tour runs rain or shine! We will cancel only if weather involves severe rains accompanied by thunder and lightening.
- Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes (no flip flops).
- Wheelchair accessibility only on a limited part of SkyWalk bridges.
- Non strenuous and mostly flat walk

We will meet at CASEM and from here decide whether we will visit the Monteverde Reserve, Curi Cancha Reserve, or SkyWalk bridges.

An amazing experience ! - We booked our entire trip through Pasion... The service, the attentiveness, the care, the understanding and patience is OUTSTANDING !!! We were picked up at our hotel in San Jose by Marcos...who by the way is the BEST guide ever !! We went on morning walk with him and also the hanging bridges. He is amazing... did I say the best guide every ? Because, well he is !! Everything went seamlessly on this trip... everything. We had to make a couple of changes due to weather... but again we were treated like family. I highly.... highly recommend Pasion..and no doubt in my mind that I will be booking a trip with them again !!!!

Amazing Tour ! 👍🏽 - The views were amazing!! We took so many pictures! Marcos was very knowledgeable about the history of Monte Verde and of all the birds and other animals we saw! Do not leave Monte Verde without taking this tour! 💜

Great Guide And A Great Tour - We had a wonderful time on our private tour! Despite being complete newbies as birdwatchers, Marcos ensured we saw more than twenty species during our morning trek around Curi-Cancha Reserve near Santa Elena. Including resplendent quetzals, toucanets, a motmot, and so many hummingbirds! Even after we left the reserve, Marcos had his eyes open, and on the way back to our hotel, he found a howler monkey in a tree along the road and a sloth above the parking lot in the neighboring hotel. He was a knowledgeable, engaging, and enthusiastic guide, and we had a fantastic time. This tour was definitely one of the highlights of our entire stay in Costa Rica.

Incredible birds need a great guide to reveal themselves! - Marcos is the best! He can call the birds and they call back. When no one could find a quetzal, he found us three. His true love and knowledge of the botany and complex ecological relationships comes through. But most of all his enthusiasm!

The best! - We went on three tours (bird watching, night tour, and natural history tour) with three different guides. Each one was amazing. They were experts in their fields and could speak about so much more. They are simply the best.

Pasion Costa Rica is THE BEST you will find in Monteverde - Marcos Mendez is the cream of the crop when it comes to guides in Monteverde. He is an incredibly skilled birder and naturalist, who enabled me to fully appreciate the incredible diversity and beauty of the cloudforest. He is brilliant with plant ecology, mammals, night hikes, and of course BIRDS. I went for a hike with him in the Cloudforest Reserve and we saw over 30 species in a couple hours of hiking! And these were BEAUTIFUL birds, that Marcos not only was able to ID but also tell me about their natural history and habits. He took our whole family out for a night hike and knew exactly where to find all of the cool nocturnal mammals. But aside from his skill and experience, Marcos is just a lover of people, and he makes everyone feel like family. He is so kind, hilarious, super considerate (brings extra binoculars and ponchos for everyone!) and completely fluent in English (and a great french speaker as well!). I HIGHLY recommend Marcos and Pasion Costa Rica, you will not be dissapointed!!!

Fantastic birdwatching tour - We have walked in Curi Cancha Reserve for about 3 hours with an expert personal guide. He has showed us a lot of birds and help us to take some pictures with our phones. He have also seen 2 different types of monkeys and a tarantola in its lairs. All was accompained by a lot of information about flora and fauna of Costa Rica. The tour was also concluded with an extra stop at Monteverde dairy for an icecream. Fantastic tour!

Amazing nature! Amazing people! Amazing experience! - Thanks Jorge, for organizing the tour at such short notice. It was the most wonderful experience. Steven is a very knowledgable guide. It was so much fun to spend time at Curi Cancha Reserve and to explore the amazing flora and fauna. We have seen so many different birds in their natural environment among them: Guan, Red-Headed Woodpecker, Hummingbirds, Golden-browed Chlorophonia, Mot-Mot, Keel-billed Toucan, Northern Emerald Toucanet, and also the Resplendent Quetzal which was the absolut highlight of the tour. Thank you and your team for this outstanding experience!!!

Beginner - Excellent knowledge by our guide. I would have liked more walking on the trail and to have seen more wildlife. Monkeys and slithers in particular.
