  • Mann Wildlife Learning Museum - The Montgomery Zoo spans 40 acres and is just 10 minutes from historic downtown Montgomery. It showcases habitats from five continents with over 400 animals in natural, barrier-free exhibits. Visitors can dine at the Overlook Cafe, shop for souvenirs, and enjoy a train ride around the park. Additional attractions include the Zoofari Skylift, Giraffe Encounter, Petting Zoo, and Parakeet Cove. Note that the Zoofari Skylift has an extra charge, and the Petting Zoo is currently viewable but not accessible due to COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Rosa Parks Library and Museum - Dedicated to the life and legacy of Rosa Parks and the many participants of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the museum features a Children’s Wing with the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine, exploring the history of segregation.
  • The Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery - Operated by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, this gallery highlights the work of living Alabama artists through rotating group exhibitions. It is located on the first floor of the RSA Tower in historic downtown Montgomery.
  • Pioneer Museum of Alabama - Located inside the Alabama Department of Archives and History, this museum offers interactive exhibits of Smithsonian quality, detailing Alabama’s history from prehistory to the present. Admission is always free.
  • Hank Williams Museum - A must-visit for country music fans, this museum in Montgomery celebrates the life of Hank Williams, country music’s first superstar. The museum features artifacts including his 1952 Baby Blue Cadillac and offers a glimpse into his life and legacy.
  • The F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum - The only museum dedicated to F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, located in their former home. The museum is filled with artifacts and staged to reflect the period they lived there. Visitors can learn about their lives and contributions to American literature. The museum is in Cloverdale, a garden-landscaped neighborhood, just a 5-minute drive from downtown Montgomery.
  • Alabama State Capitol - Overlooking downtown Montgomery for 150 years, this National Historic Landmark is a working museum of state history and politics. It was the birthplace of the Confederacy and a pivotal site in the Civil Rights Movement. The Capitol is now an official destination on the U.S. Civil Rights Trail.
  • Civil Rights Memorial Center - Serving as a center for education, reflection, and action on civil and human rights, the center features the Civil Rights Memorial designed by Maya Lin. It honors those who lost their lives in the Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to 1968. The center also includes a theater, interactive exhibits, and a classroom for educational activities.
  • Freedom Rides Museum - Commemorating the 1961 Freedom Riders who challenged segregated travel in the South, this museum is located in the historic Greyhound Bus Station where the riders arrived in Montgomery. The museum highlights their impact on ending racial segregation in interstate public transportation.
  • The Davis Theatre - A historic downtown Montgomery landmark, originally a Movie Palace for “talkies” and Vaudeville shows, now operated by Troy University as a Performing Arts Theatre. Tours are available, but it’s best to contact ahead as they cannot be conducted during performances.
  • Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts - Home to over 4,000 works of art, primarily American paintings and sculptures from the 18th to 21st centuries. The museum also features Southern regional art, Old Master prints, and decorative arts. The ArtWorks Gallery offers interactive exhibits, and the John and Joyce Caddell Sculpture Garden showcases both changing and permanent sculptures. Admission and parking are free.
