- Volubilis - Volubilis contains essentially Roman vestiges of a fortified municipium built on a commanding site at the foot of the Jebel Zerhoun. Covering an area of 42 hectares, it is of outstanding importance demonstrating urban development and Romanisation at the frontiers of the Roman Empire and the graphic illustration of the interface between the Roman and indigenous cultures. Because of its isolation and the fact that it had not been occupied for nearly a thousand years, it presents an important level of authenticity. It is one of the richest sites of this period in North Africa, not only for its ruins but also for the great wealth of its epigraphic evidence.

We start our journey back to 2,000 years from Fes at 9 AM. Departing from your hotel, we trek across the Sais Plain leading us to the magnificent Roman ruins situated in Volubilis. The key highlights of Volubilis include an ancient olive press, stately mansions, stunning mosaics, massive arches, and Corinthian columns, which provide a glimpse into the nuances of Roman lifestyle and the subsequent medieval Berber city. Key attractions include the Mansion featuring the mosaic of the Labours of Hercules; Baths of Gallienus and Baths of Forum with their fragmented mosaics. The House of Orpheus houses its Dolphin mosaic and Orpheus Myth; Venus’s Cortege houses many mosaics. Although much of it is visible from the exterior, you’ll glimpse the medallions of Bacchus, Diana and the Abduction of Hylas. Our trail also covers the Gordian Palace displaying its bathhouse and pooled patios.
