In addition, the Uluguru Mountains form part of the Eastern Arc Mountains (EAM), a chain of mountains extending from the Taita Hills in southern Kenya to the Udzungwa Mountains in the south-central part of Tanzania. Occupying the core of the Eastern Arc Mountains, the Uluguru Mountains encompass an area of 241 square kilometers (or 24,115.09 hectares), with the surrounding boundary measuring 197km. Established in 2008, the mountains were conserved to maintain the unique ecosystem and safeguard the remarkably diverse biology for the coming generations.
