Highlights
  • Kikuletwa Hotsprings - Kikuletwa Hot Springs also known as Rundugai hot water springs or Chemka hot springs are an unexpected paradise hidden in the desert scrub outside the town of Boma Situated about 71 km from Arusha. They are an extraordinary phenomenon, rushing up from underground in the middle of parched and dusty landscape. In fact, the water is not hot rather it is a pleasant temperature! This is a good place to visit for a picnic and a swim too. And the views of Kilimanjaro on a clear day are also fabulous.

The crystal-clear, turquoise waters surrounded by palm trees and winding roots offer a scenic spot for a relaxing afternoon swim. The spring is actually rather big and over 6 meters deep in some places although you can see the bottom through the crystal clear waters no matter where you are. You can have as much fun or relaxation as your heart desires and your mind and body needs.

Additional Information

This is a standard schedule for the given package. You will be fetched from your lodging in Arusha/Moshi and begin your journey on a paved roadway, heading to Boma Ng’ombe. The trip then diverts onto a dirt track for around half an hour. This route presents an incredible view of the breathtaking African landscape encompassing bushland, dried riverbeds, and diverse species of trees like baobab and acacia. This expansive territory was once a hunting domain for Europeans during the 19th century. It is now a peaceful residence for several tribal communities as well as home to a wide array of wildlife species, with a particular abundance of birds. As you approach Kikuletwa, the locale appears like a green paradise amidst a large cluster of fig trees, starkly contrasting with the barren surroundings. The sight of fresh water gushing from subterranean caves mimicking boiling springs will give you a surreal experience; hence referred to as the ‘Hot springs’.

What a gift to meet Gifton! - I only have one word in mind for my experience with the "Kilaweta Hot Spring Tour" organised by Take Me To Tanzania : FANTASTIC!!! Our guide, Gifton (who is also the owner of the company) has been, to say the least, the most wonderful host to our experience, very professional, on schedule (which is often extremely rare in Tanzania... :P) and passionate about his job. On our way to Kikuletwa, Gifton brought us to eat local food in a small village. Once sat down, he guided us through his extended knowledge of african wildlife and natural surroundings as well as the social-political history of the country, he shared with us his personal upbringing and gave us a great short swahili crash course. All of this continued in the second-half of our ride which was incredibly interesting and a great introduction to our tanzanian journey together. Once arrived at our destination, Gifton made sure we had a perfect spot to drop off our clothes and change in our swimsuits, with added local snacks layed on the table in case we would get hungry again. We stayed at the Springs for about 3hours, swimming and having a great time all together while Gifton was happy to take photographs of us while throwing ourselves into the water using the swing chord (which was so much fun but more difficult than it looks...). By the end of the day, we have felt very well cared for and most importantly part of the local community! Therefore, I thouroughly enjoyed the trip from start to finish and would highly recommend using this local young-led company for anyone's future plan to come visit this beautiful country. Unfortunately due to limited time, we were not able to explore all of the other great experiences that 'Take Me To Tanzania' has on offer but I do know for sure that this organisation will come back in use to me during my next visit!
